FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (First Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized bythe Fluid Power Fittings, Hoses and Hose Assemblies Sectional Committee had been approved by the MedicalInstruments, General and Production Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1980 as IS 9645 : 1980 ‘Specification for threaded plugs’. Necessaryassistance was derived from DIN 906 : 1973 ‘Hexagon socket pipe plugs with taper threads’ issued by theDeutsches Institut fir Normung (DIN) towards formulation of the above standard.
In view of further developments and revision of DIN 906: 1973 to DIN 906: 1992, the concerned Committeedealing with the subject decided to revise IS 9645. Considerable assistance has again been derived fromDIN 906: 1992 in the formulation of this revised standard.
In this standard a few sizes as well as use of stainless steel and aluminium alloy, in the manufacture of pipe plugshave been included. The title has also been modified to ‘Hexagon socket pipe plugs’ which has found increaseduse to designate such threaded plugs.
For the pu~ose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is compIied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance withIS 2:1960 ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)’. The number of significant places retained in therounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard. ,

HEXAGON SOCKET PIPE
(First Revision)
1 SCOPE
This standard specifies the dimensions and other generalrequirements for hexagon socket pipe plugs for diametersfrom 8 mm up to and including 60 mm which areintended to be screwed into holes with parallel threads.Since, tightness is a function of pressure, temperature, the materials involved and the fluid with which thethreaded parts are in contact, such connections cannotbe assumed to be tight. Hence, it is recommended thata sealant or seal ring may be provided where the holehas a thread.
