    Indian Standard

CONVENTIONAL SIGNS FOR USE ON GENERAL ARRANGEMENT AND

    DETAIL PLANS OF SHIPS

    0. FOREWORD

0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 7 November 1972, after the draft finalized by the Shipbuilding Sectional Committee had been approved by the Marine, Cargo Movement and Packaging Division Council.

0.2 Conventional signs and symbols are widely used in schematic diagrams to indicate various items of equipment and fittings on general arrangement plans of ships.

0.3 The signs and symbols used in this standard are in agreement with those given in ISO/R 1964-1971 ‘Indications of details on the general arrangement plans of ships’, issued by the International Organization for Standardization ( IS0 ).

    1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard recommends conventional signs and symbols for indi- cations on-general arrangement plans of ships.

    2. GENERAL

2.1 Symbols are generally drawn to a scale of I:100 approximately. General arrangement plans are drawn to scales of I:50 or 1:lOO. The individual symbols on general arrangement plans may be scaled up or down for clarity.

2.2 Basic symbols are indicated in 3.1, 4.1 and 5.1. 2.3 Conventional signs and symbols not mentioned in this standard may be derived from these basic symbols. They may also be combined with other symbols.

2.4 All types of special equipment, machinery, etc, not indicated in this standard may be symbolized similar to their actual form. For distinction, these symbols may be marked by figures and elucidated in the legend.
