FOREWORD ‘\

This Indian Standard (Third Revision) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Machine Tools Elements and Holding Devices Sectional Committee had been approved by the Production Engineering Division Council.

This standard was first issued in 1%2 and its first revision was taken up in 1974 based on ISO/R-299-1971 ‘Machine tool tables -T-slots and corresponding bolts’. The second revision was taken up in 1985 based on IS0 299-1973.

While preparing the third revision of the standard, considerable assistance has been derived from IS0 299-1987 ‘Machine tool tables - t-slots and corresponding bolts’, issued by the International Organiza- tion for Standardization (ISO). The following are the main changes incorporated in the present version:

- Chamfer ‘50 degree’ has been changed to ‘45 degree’ in the figure under Table 1.

- Values of C 3 (Min) and 3.5 (Max) for A = 5 has been changed to 3.5 and 4.5 respectively.

The requirements which were earlier covered in IS 2642 : 1985 “Spacing of T-Slots” have been now included in this standard to make it user-friendly. In the present version additional pitches have been specified for slots width (A) of 12 mm and above.

For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 ‘Rules for rountling off numerical values (rev&f)‘. The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

NOTES 1 Where values ofpgreater or less than ~hosegiven in the above table are absolutely necessary, they shall be chosen from the values of the RlO series of preferred numbers; where intemlediate values are required, they shall he chosen from the value of R20 series. 2 Where possible the pitches shown in parentheses should be avoided owing to the smaller thickteas of material between the ‘Yl”’ slots (PMin - f3Ma.t) where PMirt is the minimum pitch and B Max is the maximum width of the T-slot (sn Tabk 1).

2.2.1 For each dimensions ‘A’ of standardized T- slots (see Table 1) the values of pitches are given in Table 2, from which manufacturers are advised, unless there is justifiable reason to do otherwise, to choose the one best fitted to the dimensions of a given table or plate and to the number of slots required for its use, additionally taking into ac- count the advantage of providing, whenever pos- sible, symmetrically arranged slots about a median slot. When there is an even number of slots, the reference slot shall be clearly indicated on the machine table itself.
