Indian StandardSPECIFICATION FOR

LINSEED OILCAKE AS LIVESTOCKFEED INGREDIENT

( First Revision)

o. FOR E W 0 R D

t.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian StandardsInstitution on 30 April 1£82, after the draft finalized by the AnimalFeeds Sectional Committee had been approved by the Agricultural andFood Products Division Council.

0.2 The oilcake derived from linseed ( Linum witDtess;mu". Linn ) is a feedof high nutritive value. The formulation of this standard was undertaken by the Animal Feeds Sectional Committee in acrordance with theprogramme for the preparation of Indian Standa, Js for the variousingredients used in compounding feed mixtures. At the lame time, theneed for the speedy formulation of standards for oilseed cakes wasemphasized by the Indian Central Oilseeds Committee and the Directorateof Marketing and Inspection, Ministry of Food and Agriculture,Government of India. It is expected that this standard will assist in thedevelopment of the mixed feed industry in the country. Inclusion ofthe aflatoxin limit in the standard did not find favour with the Committee at this stage because of non-availability of a reliable and quickmethod for its determination. Further, data for fixing a safe limit in theproduct meant for livestock feed was also not available. However, itwas a considered view of the Committee to fix this limit as early aspossible.

0.3 This standard was first published in 1961. The Committee in thepresent revision took note of the latest deveJopment in the manufacturing)trading, storing and consumption pattern of the product and accordingly the requirements were modified. Opportunity has abo been takento align the test methods for various requirements to IS : 7874 ( Part I )1975*.

The number of significant places retained inthe rounded off value should be the same as that ofthe specified valuein this standard.
