Indian StandardSPECIFICATION FOR
CAGE WHEEL FOR POWER TILLERS
o. FOR E W 0 R D
0.1 This Indian Standard was adopted by the Indian StandardsInstitution on 31 August 1982. after the draft finalized by the AgriculturalTractors and Power Tillers Sectional Committee had been approved bythe Agricultural and Food Products Division Council.
0.2 Power tilIers are generally supplied with pneumatic wheels fortransportation and dry land cultivation. Studies indicate that theconversion of engine power into drawbar pull by these wheels is very poorwhen operated in puddled soil. Thi. may be due to either more slippageor higher roJling resistance from sinkage, or both. To improve tractionunder such conditions, most of the manufacturers have been supplyingdifferent types of cage wheels for power tillers.
0.3 In order to rationalize the dimensions, a need was felt to formulate anIndian Standard on the subject.
0.4 In preparation of this standard, assistance has been derived from thework done at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
0.5 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of thisstandard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off inaccordance with IS: 2 .. I~60·. The number of significant placesretained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of thespecified value in this standard.
1. SCOPE
1.1 This standard specifies material. dimensions and other requirementsof cage wheel for power tillers.
-Rule. for rounding off numerical value. ("vis,d).

2. MATERIAL
2.1 Th. material for varioul components luch as hub, braces, lUgI andrim of the cage wheel shall be mild steel (SII IS: 226-1975·) or anymaterial superior than this.
3. DIMENSIONS
3.1 The overall diameter of the wheel ( s" A in Fig. I) shallbe 700 ± 5 mm.

3.2 Effective lug diameter of the wheel ($II B in Fig. I) shallbe 685± 5 mm,
3.3 Diameter of the lug base (see C in Fig. 1 ) shall be 610 ± 5 mm.
3.t Overall width of the rim ( see D in Fig. 1) shall be 200 ± 2 rom.

angle (sel at in Fig. 1 ) shall be 20 ± 1°. The nominal size of the anglesection for lug shall be 38 X 38 X 3 mm,
3.6 The fixing holes shall be 4 in number, equally spaced on the hub atthe pitch circle diameter (se, E in Fig. 1) of 115 ± 1·5 rom. Thediameter of the holes shall be 14·0 ± 1·0 mm.
3.7 The hub hole diameter (see F in Fig. 1 ) shall be 75 ± 1 mm,
3.8 The nominal size of the flat section for hub, rim and brace shallbe 180 X 8 mm, 44 X 6 rom and 25 X 6 mm respectively.
4. WORKMANSHIP AND FINISH
4.1 The components shall be free from pits, burrs, cracks and other visualdefects which may be detrimental for their use.
4.2 The various components shall be rigidly attached and welding shallnot be porous.
4.3 The com ponents shall be painted to prevent surface deterioration.
5. MARKING
5.1 Each cage wheel shall be marked with the manufacturer's name andregistered trade-mark, if any. Batch or code number shall also bemarked.
5.1.1 Each cage wheel may also be marked with the lSI CertificationMark.
NOTE - The ule of the lSI Certification Mark is governed by the provisions ofthe Indian Standards Institution (Certification Mark.) Act and the Rules andRegulations made thereunder. The lSI Mark on products covered by an IndianStandard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with therequirement. of that standard under a well-defined system of inspection, teatingand quality control which is deviled and supervised by lSI and operated by theproducer, lSI marked products are also continuously checked by lSI for conformityto that standard at a further safeguard, Details of conditions under which alicence for the use of the lSI Certification Mark may by granted to manufacture...or procesaors, may be obtained from the Indian Standards Inatiturion,
6. SAMPLING FOR LOT ACCEPTANCE
6.1 Unless otherwise agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier, sampling of the cage w heel for lot acceptance shall be done in accordancewith 3 of IS : 7201-1974*.
