Arriving & Departing

It’s easy to get to Irving. We are centrally located

between Dallas and Fort Worth in North Texas, and

in the center of the U.S. By air, Irving is less than

four hours from any major metropolitan area in the

continental U.S.

By Air

If you’re arriving by air, DFW International Airport (972-574-

6000, dfwairport.com), one of the world’s busiest airports, is

probably on your itinerary. Ground transportation is available

24 hours a day, 365 days a year via SuperShuttle (817-329-

2000, supershuttle.com). If you rent a car, exit the airport via

the south entrance (Airport Frwy/SH-183), or north via SH-114.

Rail access to and from DFW Airport is also available via Dallas

Area Rapid Transit’s (214-749-DART, dart.org) Orange Line,

with five Irving stations: Belt Line, North Lake College, Irving

Convention Center at Las Colinas, Las Colinas Urban Center

and University of Dallas.

The Metroplex’s other major airport is Dallas Love Field (214-

670-6073, dallas-lovefield.com), located at Cedar Springs Rd

and Mockingbird Ln in Dallas. Love Field handles more than

100 intrastate and regional flights daily. Shuttle service is

available through SuperShuttle. DART’s Orange Line stops at

Burbank Station, which services Love Field.

By Bus or Rail

Greyhound Bus Lines (214-849-8966, greyhound.com) serves

Irving through its terminal at 969 E Irving Blvd. DART offers

convenient service within the Metroplex including commuter

rail service on the Trinity Railway Express (817-215-8600,

trinityrailwayexpress.org) between Irving’s South Irving

Station (Rock Island Rd and O’Connor Rd), West Irving Station

(Esters Rd and Conflans Dr), downtown Dallas, DFW Airport

and downtown Fort Worth. Additionally, Dart Rail Orange

Line includes stations at the Irving Convention Center at Las

Colinas, the University of Dallas, the Las Colinas Urban Center

and the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. DART also has

special services for disabled visitors (214-515-7272).

Amtrak Rail Service (214-653-1101 or 800-872-7245, amtrak.

com) offers limited passenger service via Dallas Union Station.

By Car

You can get to Irving from any direction, including I-35E

and US-75 (north-south), I-30 and I-20 (east-west), and I-45

(from Houston). The city itself is bordered by four highways:

I-635 to the north, Loop 12 (also known as Northwest

Highway) to the east, I-30 to the south, and SH-360 to the

west. The major arteries within the city limits are O’Connor

Road and MacArthur Boulevard (north-south), Airport

Freeway (SH-183) and Irving Boulevard (east-west). State

Highway 161 (also known as the President George Bush

Turnpike) runs from far west Irving to far north Irving,

offering a shortcut from SH-183 to SH-114 and I-635.

Local Transportation

You can explore Irving on foot, and it’s recommended

in Las Colinas’ Mandalay Canal area, where you can

also take advantage of the Las Colinas Monorail system.

If you plan to visit the neighboring cities of Dallas and

Fort Worth, you have several options.

variety of services, including city tours, private charters,

limousine service and airport shuttles.

Taxi Service

Cabs are metered at $2.25 minimum, plus $1.80 per each

additional mile. There is a fuel surcharge when gas exceeds

$2/gallon and each additional passenger costs $2. Cabs

can be hailed at the airports, hotels, in the Las Colinas Urban

Center, in Dallas and in Fort Worth. In other areas, it’s usually

necessary to call one from your location.

Irving boasts numerous attractions right inside the city

limits that are sure to interest and excite your group’s

craving for fun. Be sure to visit one – or visit them all!

The Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau (972-252-7476,

500 W Las Colinas Blvd, irvingtexas.com) is a good place

to get your bearings, including free information on local

attractions and other visitor information. Located inside the

Irving Convention Center, open Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Heritage House (972-252-3838, 303 S O’Connor Rd) was built

in 1912, and is one of Irving’s oldest homes. Nearby Heritage

Park (Main St at Second St) features a historic train depot

and offers tours daily. Serving as a living history center, the

Jackie Townsell Bear Creek Heritage Center (972-721-2501,

3929 Jackson St) is one of the finest repositories of African-

American culture and heritage in the state. It features the

settlers’ earliest homes and historical displays. Tours available

by appointment.

The Ruth Paine House Museum (972-721-3729, Visitors’ Center

located at 801 W Irving Blvd, cityofirving.org/museums/

paine-house.asp) offers the very human account of the events

related to President John F. Kennedy’s assassination that

occurred in this small, suburban home.

Centennial Park (972-721-2501), located along Delaware Creek in

Downtown Irving and just south of Millennium Fountain, features

Founders Plaza and a commemorative wall depicting the history

of Irving through words and pictures etched in the wall.

The Irving Arts Center’s complex (972-252-7558, 3333 N

MacArthur Blvd, irvingartscenter.com) houses four galleries,

two theaters and an outdoor sculpture garden on a 10 acre-

site. Recognized in 2007 as a Smithsonian Affiliate, the Arts

Center presents 24 exhibitions annually. Showcasing a mix

of contemporary and traditional art, featured artists include

established, emerging and student artists. The two fully

equipped theaters host more than 225 events each year.

Eleven resident companies offering symphonies, choral

and popular music, theatre, musicals, dance and cultural

presentations call the Irving Arts Center home. Call 972-252-

ARTS for a schedule of events and exhibits.

The National Scouting Museum (972-580-2100 or 800-303-

3047, 1329 Walnut Hill Ln, nationalscoutingamuseum.org) is

a tribute to the rich history of the Boy Scouts of America. This

massive state-of-the-art facility features a Norman Rockwell

art gallery, virtual reality adventures, hands-on learning

experiences and a historical collection that traces the Scouting

movement from its beginnings.

In the master-planned community of Las Colinas is the

magnificent Flower Clock (Hwy 114 and O’Connor Rd), a

working timepiece that is adorned year-round with fresh

blooms and greenery. Just down the street on O’Connor are

the Mustangs of Las Colinas (O’Connor Rd north of Hwy 114,

mustangsoflascolinas.com), a breathtakingly realistic sculpture

of nine bronze mustangs galloping across a prairie stream. Stroll

across the plaza of Williams Square to visit the free Mustang

Sculpture Exhibit (972-869-9047, East Tower of Williams

Square), which includes an informative film about mustangs and

the creation of this fabulous sculpture by artist Robert Glen.

Indians; and California Crossing, a junction along the California

Trail favored by ’49ers as they journeyed west seeking fortunes

of gold. The northern section, Spring Trail Park, includes

3.5 miles of primary trail and 2.5 miles of equestrian trail at

the intersection of Riverside Dr and Spur 348. The southern

section’s Mountain Creek Preserve, at Nursery and Hunter

Ferrell roads, includes 1.5 miles of concrete trails, equestrian

riding area and a canoe launch.

Campión Trails

Campión Trails (972-721-2501, cityofirving.org/parks-and-

recreation) is an unexpected delight in the midst of a bustling

urban development. Located along the shores of the Trinity

River’s Elm and West Forks, Irving’s world-class greenbelt

development includes miles of native forest and pristine

river abundant with wildlife and flora. More than 30 miles

of paved, wheelchair-accessible primary and secondary

trails are planned for the greenbelt. An additional 10 miles

will be designed as unpaved nature, off-road bicycling and

equestrian trails. Ten parks and other key points offer easy

access for residents and visitors on foot, wheels or horseback

to canoe landings and sailboat launches, parks with picnic

areas, activity and event plazas, nature centers and historic

interpretive facilities, as well as a 156-acre sports complex.

Within Campión’s bounds lie several of Texas’ most historic

trails and crossings. These include the original Keenan’s

Crossing Bridge along the Bird’s Fort Trail, which Sam

Houston traveled en route to signing The Treaty of Peace and

Friendship in 1843, leading to the end of hostilities with the

Post Office

Mailboxes and postage stamp vending machines are

accessible 24 hours daily in the lobby of Irving’s main Post

Office (800-275-8777, 2701 W Irving Blvd) with window hours

Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 6 pm, and Saturday

10 am to 2 pm. The Story Road location (972-255-1637, 2300 W

Story Rd) has window hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 am

to 5 pm, closed on Saturday.
