Waste Management now manages Irvine’s free Paper Shred Events. Mark your calendars for our 2017 events. Both Shred Events will take place at the Lakeview Senior Center, 20 Lake Road in Irvine.

Residents may bring up to five banker-size file boxes (dimensions 24” wide x 12” high) for free disposal, shredding, and recycling. Shredding will take place on site. A donation receptacle to drop-off gently used clothing will also be provided onsite. Proof of Irvine residency is required.

NON-PROFIT HIGHLIGHT SECOND HARVEST FOODBANK

Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, located in Irvine, is a local social services provider who is also leading the way in food waste reduction. Second Harvest works with local grocery chains to rescue high quality food for distribution to the hungry.

Waste Management has long supported their efforts to provide “nourishment and hope” to 335,000 hungry people throughout Orange County. Their Grocery Rescue program prevented 2,879 tons of perfectly good food from being sent to the landfill this year alone. At Your Door is a new door-to-door household hazardous waste (HHW) collection program offered at no cost to qualifying senior or disabled Irvine residents.

Once per year, qualifying residents can request postage-paid mail back containers to safely dispose of waste such as automotive products, home cleaners, garden chemicals, electronics, paint products, and non-controlled medicine. A complete list of accept-able materials and instructions will be included in the mail back packet.

To qualify, residents can contact Waste Management to request an application at (949) 642-1191. All residents may continue to drop off HHW at the
