I recently ran across a list of answers given by 2nd grade school children asking them some questions about their moms. I had fun with their responses, and think you will, too. Enjoy!
Why did God make moms? 1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is. 2. Mostly to clean the house. 3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.
How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us. 2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring. 3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.
What ingredients are mothers made of? 1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world
and one dab of mean. 2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.
Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom? 1. We're related. 2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me. What kind of little girl was your mom? 1. My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff. 2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy. 3. They say she used to be nice. What did Mom need to know about Dad before she married him? 1. His last name. 2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer? 3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Hi Lynne,
We received the check from the church today. Courtney and I are so thankful and overwhelmed by y'all's love and generosity. We loved getting the chance to spend time with people and in a place that means so much to both of us. The money is
much appreciated -- it will help with the seemingly never-ending costs of books and school. Thank you again for the invitation to preach and the support of the church throughout the candidacy process.
We hope to make our way back down to be with you all again soon!

Sweet Voices Choir
The FUMC Sweet Voices children’s choir musical
presentation of “The First Lord’s Day”, under the
direction of Laura Mays and Misty Hankinson, was
truly a blessing to everyone in attendance during the
9 & 11am services on Sunday, April 3rd. What a
fantastic job you all did!
Thank you for sharing your sweet voices with us!

A great big THANK YOU
to Jerry Higgins (pictured

(pictured below) for sharing
their personal stories of
perseverance with our
children’s Sunday school
classes in April.
What a blessing and an
inspiration you both are to
each one of us!
For this very reason, make every effort to
add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control;
and to self-control, perseverance; and to
perseverance, godliness… 2 Peter 1:5-7

When I was a small child, everything was about me. I need this toy. I need that radio. I need... I need… I need. As you grow up and you get older, you realize not everything revolves around you. Our life is changed when we discover that our life is really God's gift to us. We are content! We are satisfied. We are happy! Contentment is deciding to be happy with what you've got. Come to Sunday school and discover how people were content in the Bible. Week 1- Philippians 4:11 Apostle Paul Bottom Line: When you focus on God, He can help you be content. Week 2- 1 Kings 21:1-19,27 King Ahab Bottom Line: When you focus on what you don't have, it can make you miserable. Week 3- Exodus 16:2-21; 17:1-4 Israelites Bottom Line: When you focus on what you used to have, you can miss what you have now. Week 4- Luke 12:13-21 Jesus' story of the Rich Fool Bottom Line: When you focus on stuff, you can miss what matters. Week 5- Matthew 6:25-34 Jesus' story on the Sermon on the Mount Bottom Line: When you focus on God, you don't have to worry. Our memory verse says: I have learned the secret of being content no matter what happens. I am content whether I am well fed or hungry. I am content whether I have more than enough or not enough. Philippians 4:12 Since I grew up... I have learned to be more content in my life. I trust that God will take care of me. I don't need all that stuff anymore and that makes me feel grateful.
Summertime is coming!! Sunday School will be a little different. Our 6th graders will be in Youth after Confirmation. Congrats!!! [ I will still come visit, but I will miss you at Submerge.] Our Kndg.-3rd grade classes will all meet together. We will have fun all summer with Veggie Tales! So come join us as we explore the Old Testament stories about: Standing Strong, Following God, Trusting God, and Doing What's Right. * Study Scripture * Engaging activities * video clips from Veggie Tale dvds Our 4th/5th graders will be our teen helpers. I will be coming by your SS classes in May to give you more details. Can't wait for you to help me with the younger children. It will be awesome! Our preschoolers will have some fun with Veggie Tales also. They will explore the same stories but on their own level. We will all gather together on Promotion Sunday, August 21 to have a great big Veggie Tale party in Wesley Hall. You won't want to miss it!! Invite your friends to come join us too! We would love to share Veggie Tales with others. Praising God Always, Kimberly Bowers Children's Ministry Director First United Methodist Church

Food Basket
On April 3, our youth
spent hours spreading
mulch, repairing shelves
and adding a new legacy
to the Food Basket.
There is now a tree
planted in honor of Mrs.
Suzanne Sargent. The
youth also donated over
$100 of their own funds
to the Food Basket min-
istry.
Thank you to Jim Snyder
for getting this project
set up for us.

Youth Summer Son Time
We are going to have a lot to celebrate over the next two months in our youth group
and in our church. In the next two months we will have 12 new confirmands moving up
to the youth group, three of which were baptized in April at Surfside Beach. We will get
to honor 9 graduating seniors and also honor all of our youth parents at a banquet.
In June, we have our largest group in recent years going to UM Army in Fairfield. By
the time you receive the July newsletter, we will have studied the Bible, done service
work around town and the state, eaten a lot of good food and had a lot of fun together.
Hopefully all will be done with a new youth summer intern, too.
Our tentative schedule is listed here below but it will have
adjustments and additions as we go through the summer. Keep
up with the youth over the summer through our weekly emails
and through Facebook at First Y outh Lake Jackson. Better yet,
come and hang out with us at the youth center. We are a fun
group, just ask us...and everything we do is for the glory of
God.

MOMS________
CONTINUED FROM COVER….
Why did your mom marry your dad? 1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world.. And my Mom eats a lot. 2. She got too old to do anything else with him. 3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on. Who's the boss at your house? 1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball. 2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.. 3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.. What's the difference between moms & dads? 1. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them. 2. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want
to sleep over at your friend's. 3. Moms have magic; they make you feel better without medicine. What does your mom do in her spare time? 1. Mothers don't do spare time. 2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long. What would it take to make your mom perfect? 1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery. 2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.
If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be? 1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that. 2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me. 3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head. Love you, Mom!

HONORING MOM THIS MOTHER’S DAY
Mother's Day on Sunday, May 8 is a time to recognize all mothers and the important role they play in our lives. This year, consider honoring your mother
with a memorial or honorarium gift to the church endowment to support a ministry she cares or cared about most or consider setting up a new permanent endowment fund in her name to support a cause close to her heart. For more information about honoring your loved ones, contact the church.
