Advantages• Conform to Any Shape• Multiple Sizes Handled with One Gripper• Delicate Handling• Wide Size Range• High Load Capacity• Non-marring Contact• No Lubrication Required• Low Cost• Long Life in a Dusty Environment

PrecautionsPressureAirPicker™ and AirGripper™ end-effectors should notbe used past their maximum recommended workingpressure. This pressure varies depending on the fabricreinforcement and rubber material.

MediaAir is the normal media used to inflate the Firestoneend-effectors. Nitrogen can also be used to decreasethe potential for oxidation and reduce permeation.

TemperatureThe minimum and maximum recommended workingtemperatures for the following rubber materials are 0ºFto 125ºF (-18ºC to 52ºC) for neoprene and -22ºF to320ºF (-30ºC to 160ºC) for silicone.

Contact SurfaceThe preferred contact surface for AirPicker andAirGripper end-effector is smooth and dry. Any threads, burrs or sharp objects will decrease the useful life of therubber bladder. Protective neoprene sleeves areavailable to increase the life of the bladder when thecontact surface is detrimental.

Minimum and Maximum Working DiameterThe maximum working diameter range given for eachend-effector insures a firm hold on the object as wellas maximizing the life of the rubber. Exceeding thisdiameter range will increase the strain on the rubberand cause premature damage. Using an end-effectorbelow the range of the working diameter will abradethe rubber as it is placed into and removed froman object.

Unrestricted InflationRepeated unrestricted inflation will prematurelydamage a Firestone end effector. If the applicationrequires unrestricted inflation, a protective rubbersleeve or a casing surrounding the rubber isrecommended. The sleeve or casing will restrict thediameter of the rubber and reduce the strain.

PreconditioningAll of the fabric reinforced rubber bladders have smallpieces of cotton threads, called pick cords, used to holdthe nylon tire chords of the fabric plies together duringproduction. Before the end-effectors are able to reachrecommended working diameters, these pick cordsmust be broken through preconditioning. In order tobreak these pick cords the end-effectors must beinflated unrestricted at the maximum recommendedworking pressure for 30 cycles. NOTE: Excessiveunrestricted inflation will harm the rubber.

ContaminatesNeoprene, silicone and EPDM have their advantagesand disadvantages when in contact with lubricants, acids, solutions, etc. Please contact Firestone withspecific applications.

StorageThe best storage environment is a dark, dry area atnormal room temperature.
