At the forefront of knowledge production, the Unicamp Institute of Chemistry - IQ, founded in 1967, is a center of excellence in teaching and research in Chemistry both in Brazil and, increasingly, in the world. It is also noted for its strong tradition of forming relationships with the industrial sector. Many applied research topics emerge from these partnerships and most recent graduates head to this sector. Recognized as the best program in the country, based on the periodic reviews by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - Capes), the IQ graduate program offers the possibility of obtaining master's and doctorate degrees in the areas of Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, with approximately 40 specific lines of research. The highly skilled faculty and the 32,000-m² cutting-edge laboratory complex contribute to IQ’s reputation, in addition to the collection of 14,000 books available in its library, considered one of the largest and one of the best in the country in the field of Chemistry. More than 1,200 master's and doctoral theses and dissertations have been defended at the Institute, which maintains a tradition of inviting foreign professors to teach graduate courses for international inclusion. IQ accounts for approximately 12% of the academic production in the field of Chemistry in the country, with approximately 350 articles per year in indexed publications with national and international circulations and with an average of 15.2 citations per article, above the national average of 10.8 citations. This effort takes into account a significant level of student participation. IQ is also one of Unicamp’s units that raises the most funds for research projects with industries and maintains a leading position in the number of patent applications. Due to the range and the quality of its scientific production, IQ constitutes a major national research and training center for researchers and academics in the main areas of Chemistry, extending its influence across the entire country. Respected as one of the best programs in Latin America, the IQ undergraduate program was also awarded the Accreditation Certificate by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), the largest organization in Europe supporting chemical sciences. This Unicamp program was the first among the state universities of São Paulo to garner this international recognition. In addition to serving as an important external quality assessment of the program offered by Unicamp, the Accreditation Certificate also opens the door for the participation of IQ students in internships and exchanges with European research institutions or, upon graduation, to enter the European labor market without the need to validate the certification obtained in Brazil. IQ offers 4 undergraduate degrees: the bachelor in Chemistry, the bachelor in Technological Chemistry, teacher training in Chemistry and Technological Chemistry (night course). IQ has awarded more than 1,300 bachelor degrees in its history.
