SHOOT RAW &ADJUST NATIVEAPP EXPOSURE

Did you know you can shoot RAW

on your iPhone? My favorite way to

do so is through the Lightroom

Mobile App . (Lightroom Mobile >

Camera > PRO > File Format -

DNG) but there are plenty of other

apps on the market that let you

shoot RAW as well .

I don 't always carry my DSLR or

Mirrorless camera on me .

Sometimes when chasing three

toddlers around carrying a big

camera with me just doesn 't make

sense . But I DO always have my

phone on me . Additionally ,

adjusting the exposure in your

native iPhone camera app can make

a HUGE HUGE difference . ( Open

camera app > Click on screen > Hold

and press once sun appears to lock

exposure > Slide sun up or down to

raise and lower exposure)

FAMILY SELF PORTRAITS WITH ANINTERVALOMETER APP

I 'm a big sucker for a good self portrait . My favorite way to do this is with a

free app called 'xPIC ' . It 's an awesome app that lets you take photos with

an intervalometer . The way I do it is I set up my camera , change the

settings to Interval Time - 5sec and Number of Shots - 40 . This means your

camera will take 1 picture , every 5 seconds , 40 times . Then I hit the shutter

button and it 's game time .

. . . . . the best part about it? Your camera will autofocus for you . No stress

about setting up focus ahead of time .

SMALLMOMENTSMATTER

So many times I 've sat and watched

wonderful moments with my

children pass by and thought "Man ,

I wish I had my camera with me".

Don 't be fooled into thinking that

your phone is only good for taking

crappy snapshots . No , your phone

camera isn 't going to replace your

DSLR , and no it 's not going to

produce heirloom quality images .

But what it will let you capture are

the small moments . The moments

you wouldn 't have captured

otherwise because you 're holding

too many kids to hold a camera as

well and moving too fast to

remember your camera as you leave

out the door . Your phone will move

and keep up at the same pace you

do so you can capture those

moments - and man , do those

moments matter .

Want to know the number 1 way to

level up your iPhone game?

Remember your rules of

composition . Now , if you 've known

me for a while , you know I LOVE to

break the rules . But when it comes

to my iPhone , the one rule I always

follow is . . . .

Keep your lines straight .

It 's amazing what a difference this

can make in your work . It can take a

photo from snapshot to keepsake in

a second . I do this quickly in the

Lightroom Mobile app by going to

(Geometry > Upright > Level or Auto).

Speaking of lines , iPhone photos are

a great way to utilize leading lines .

Theres something about the wide

angle lens mixed with leading lines

that works so well .

GIVE NIGHT MODE A CHANCE

Lastly , I want to encourage you to try out Night mode if your phone

has it . Both photos above were taken in near pitch black darkness but

thanks to night mode I was able to capture these moments that I

wouldn 't have otherwise .

One more thing - Leave the cheese at home ! Having your iPhone

camera out more often is a great way to get your kids used to having

their photo taken without them saying 'Cheese ' . The goal here is

natural interaction ! I keep my phone on silent when I 'm using my

phone camera to make it even more inconspicuous .
