    All About Me

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

Over the next few weeks the children in IDR will be learning about themselves during our unit of work called AllAbout Me.

We will begin this unit of work by talking about our favourite things and our families. Over a few weeks the childrenwill be making a poster that is all about them! We will need a baby photo and a separate family photo from you(which will be returned to you at the end of the unit). Also, if you have any toy magazines or catalogues at home, wewould be very grateful for them. Please can you make sure that we have the photographs by Wednesday 10thSeptember , many thanks!

This unit is part of the Early Years programme of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). This curriculum hasbeen specially written for young children who are in schools out of their home country and sets out clearly whatchildren should learn in four groups of strands. These strands are called Independence and Interdependence,Communicating, Exploring and Healthy Living.

The planned activities will cover these strands in the following ways:

Strand 1: Independence and InterdependenceDuring these first weeks the children will learn a great deal about relationships and interacting with people, whomay be different from themselves. They will have opportunities to play alone, alongside and with other children andin doing so become aware of rules and acceptable behaviour. They will be introduced to activities, which developnew skills and build upon their particular strengths.

Strand 2: CommunicatingWe will share lots of books, stories, rhymes and songs. The children will be involved in counting activities as well asusing some of the processes of Art and Craft.

Strand 3: ExploringThroughout these early days the children will learn about playing with materials, exploring actively with their senses

    and choosing their own materials.

Strand 4: Healthy LivingThe children will begin to learn about paying attention and concentrating as well as expressing emotions andemotional need. Every day will bring opportunities to develop the ability to cope with change.

International AspectIn addition to playing and communicating with each other, we will learn a few simple words and sing songs in thelanguages of our classmates. Later in the topic we will use a globe and map to locate our birth countries and hostcountry.

    Kind regards,

    Jo and Caroline
