Gardeners, especially farmers will have anidea if mixing unused powdered charcoal(Carbon Sulphate Oxide) affect the height of aplant or crop in particularly a Oregano plant

(Origanum Vulgare) so as to discover a way togrow their plant in a shorter period of timewithout tampering the crop or the plant itself.

The materials needed for the experiment weregathered.

The fifteen medium sized pots were labeledwith a masking tape

and a marker as follows A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, B1,B2, B3, B4, B5 and

C1, C2,C3, C4, C5.

30g of loam soil was put in each pot.

The soil in experimental set-up A was mixedwith 20g of powdered

Charcoal and the soil in experimental set-up Bwas mixed with 10g of

powdered charcoal. All soil were mixed with asmall garden shovel with

the use of the small garden shovel.

Pots C1-C5 were labeled as the controlled set-up and was mixed with 0g

of powdered charcoal.

taken a picture with the use of a digital camera.

We found out that charcoal does affect theheight of a plant. We have noticed that theplants in both experimental set ups grewslower than of the plant in the controlled set

up. However, we have discovered that thepresence of charcoal in the soil made itcompact does making it have a lesser chanceof eroding.

We did not put a stick beside the plant tosupport it.

We did not crush the charcoal thoroughly.

We mixed too much charcoal to soil.

We mixed the charcoal in the soil.

We therefore conclude that charcoal has asignificant effect on the Origanium Vulgareplant. We also reject our hypothesis whichstates that Mixing charcoal to the soil has no

significant effect to the growth of anOriganium Vulgare plant.because charcoalslows the growing of the plant in terms ofheight.

We recommend that the people who will plan todo this experiment is to :

a. Change the plastic cups (pot) to a clay potfor it to be more environmental friendly

b.The experimenters can choose upon avariety of plants especially orchids which is aplant normally seen with charcoal as its soil.
