    COM1:

    RS-485 serial connection or ModemGate

All ION7300 series meters provide COM1, an RS-485 serial communications port that supportsthese protocols: ION, Modbus RTU, or DNP(ION7330 / ION7350).ION7330 and ION7350 meters with aninternal modem can use the ModemGateprotocol on COM1, allowing the metersinternal modem to communicate with the

meter, the ION Enterprise server computer, andany devices that are wired to the metersCOM1 port.

    COM2:

    RS-485 serial connection or EtherGate

The ION7330 or ION7350 meter providesCOM2. If your meter has an Ethernet card, then COM2 functions as an Ethernetgateway (EtherGate) EtherGate transfersdata directly between an Ethernet networkand any devices that are wired to themeters COM2 port. If there is no Ethernetcard, then COM2 functions as a serial

communications RS-485 port, and supportsION, Modbus RTU, or DNP protocols.

The meters internal modemcommunicates to the servercomputer over the telephonenetwork.

    Ethernet port

All ION7300 series meters support theoptional Ethernet card. An Ethernet connection

supports ION, Modbus RTU, or Modbus/TCPprotocols.

    COM3:

    Optical serial connection

All ION7300 series meters provide COM3, an optical(infrared) port. The optical port (located on the front ofthe meter) is used for serial communications, andsupports these protocols: ION, Modbus RTU, or DNP(ION7330 / ION7350). The port can also be used forenergy pulsing.

    NOTE

The internal modem option is hardwired to COM1. If you are using ModemGate, then any meter with an

internal modem that will reside on the serial loop must connect to the serial loop using COM2. If COM1

is used, then the two modems (gated meter internal modem and serially looped meter internal modem)

    conflict during communication.

numbers before the dash. For example, if the serial number is PA-0009B263-01, the Unit ID is set in

the factory to 9263. After a factory reset, the unit ID number will default to 100.3 EtherGate is available on ION7330 and ION7350 meters with Ethernet.
