If your meter has an Ethernet card,then COM2 functions as an Ethernetgateway (EtherGate) EtherGate transfersdata directly between an Ethernet networkand any devices that are wired to themeters COM2 port. If there is no Ethernetcard, then COM2 functions as a serial

communications RS-485 port, and supportsION, Modbus RTU, or DNP protocols.

The meters internal modemcommunicates to the servercomputer over the telephonenetwork.

Ethernet port

All ION7300 series meters support theoptional Ethernet card. An Ethernet connection

supports ION, Modbus RTU, or Modbus/TCPprotocols.

COM3:

Optical serial connection

All ION7300 series meters provide COM3, an optical(infrared) port. The optical port (located on the front ofthe meter) is used for serial communications, andsupports these protocols: ION, Modbus RTU, or DNP(ION7330 / ION7350). The port can also be used forenergy pulsing.

NOTE

The Profibus meter option for the ION7300

uses special communications connections.
