PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
M ay is upon us and
hopefully the warm weather
will as well. Looking forward to getting
outdoors, cutting grass, landscaping and
of course coaching soccer.
In April we were “Back to the
‘Burg” at the Verdi Club and they did a
wonderful job. A very hospitable group
and the renovations they did in the
Members’ Bar were very impressive.
This month we will be going to the
University Of Windsor Engineering
Building. For those that have not had the
pleasure of being in the building yet, it
is definitely going to be a treat!
The business networking period
will be replaced with guided tours of the
facility. This is still your opportunity to
get to know your fellow members a little
more while at the same time getting a
rare opportunity to have a behind the
scenes look at this marvelous structure.
In June, I’m happy to
announce that we will be
hosting the “Taste of
CIBPA”. There was
information presented at
last next meeting as well as
forms for you to fill out. The
Taste of CIBPA will only be a success if
you participate. I strongly encourage
everyone to get involved. Let’s have
some fun with it.
We have different categories for our
members to sign up in and it will be
your time to showcase your abilities and
culinary talents in a fun (and delicious)
way. A wise man once said “You miss
100% of the shots you don’t take”.
Don’t miss your shot at being a culinary
CIBPA Star!
I look forward to seeing you all at
the University of Windsor. Our
wonderful Vice-President Nadia
DiDomenico will be chairing the
meeting as I will be running late. ONE
CIBPA!!!!

or comments, feel free to call me at

Centre For Structures Safety And Failure Analysis
The structures lab features one-and-a-half metre thick concrete walls paired with an equally strong floor
to test durability and failure of test components. Nothing like it has ever been seen in a university setting
before. Equipped with a 20-ton crane, the strong room offers unparalleled learning opportunities for students.
The wall is 4.92’ thick by 35.4’ high and the floor is 3.6’ thick. Casting of these elements was a
challenge and precautions were taken to minimize concrete cracking due to high temperatures reached in the
concrete.
Tour of the: STRUCTURES LAB
Tour of the: CHARGE LAB
Dr. Kar’s Centre for Hybrid Automotive Research & Green Energy
(CHARGE) is a state-of-the-art lab. It focuses on the develop of an improved
electric drive train system for electric and hybrid vehicles. Work in the
CHARGE lab will increase the capability, energy efficiency and performance
of the electric motor, reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil
fuels.
A team of researchers at the University of Windsor and a local solar technologies company have
collaborated to prove the benefits of solar power in extending the driving range of electric vehicles.
By harnessing the sun’s rays through rooftop panels, Unconquered Sun Solar Technologies founder
and CEO Sean Moore says the driving range can be extended an average of 45 per cent further.
Associate professor Narayan Kar led a team of three PhD students, a masters student and a senior
undergraduate in studying the vehicle rooftop solar technology.
