Dear Saints Families, I want to thank all of you for your prayers and support last week as so many of our community dealt with the terrible flooding. I have heard the stories of our families and staff members wading through high water to reach their homes or having to spend the night in a car or local drug store. We managed to weather the storm but unfortunately had to close school on Wednesday and Friday. Everyone has been so patient as we try to reschedule and work in all the year-end activities that were cancelled. Today was all smiles, as our elementary and middle school students enjoyed Field Day! We were blessed with beautiful weather and the smiles on the faces of the students made it all worthwhile. Tonight was our fabulous musical “Honk”, put on by the choir, and tomorrow, we will have a chance to enjoy the awesome Middle School Band Concert. We truly appreciate our PE and Music Departments for their flexibility and hard work in ensuring that these special events took place for our students. The good news is that we do not have to make up any days so we are still on track for ending, May 30th at noon! This Friday, our graduating 8th graders pass the torch to the rising 7th grade class at Mass before they head out next week for their trip to Camp Cho Yeh. Please pray that they have a safe and blessed trip and make lots of great memories. It will be bittersweet the next week before graduation, as we have some 8th graders from families that have been with us for 20 years! We will miss them so much as they move on to high school and

become distinguished members of our Saints Alumni. We will actually be welcoming back our former Saints at Mass on the 24th if you want to hear how they are doing since their 8th grade graduation! God bless,

Suzanne Barto

IOWA TESTING RESULTS Iowa Assessment scores for students in grades 1st- 8th are going home in students’ red folders, today, May 15th. The Iowa Assessments measure student growth and progress in the content areas assessed from year to year. Your child’s scores will indicate how he/she performed on the tests compared with students across the nation in the same grade during the same time of year. The Iowa Assessments help teachers identify a student’s strengths, as well as areas that may need additional emphasis. These results also provide information that helps teachers in planning instruction. You may want to discuss the test results with your child, and if you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. The teacher may refer you to the appropriate counselor if further assistance is necessary. Please find links screencasts on how to read and interpret your child’s IOWA student profile HERE, as well as understanding the CogAT scores HERE. Have a wonderful summer! Kelli Pinac-ECC/Elementary Counselor Linda Schurman-5th-8th Grade Counselor

A NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY LIBRARY BOOKS DUE NOW Please make sure all SLCS Library books are turned in by tomorrow, Thursday 5/16. If your student has lost a book, the replacement fee is $20 per book due by cash or check (made out to SLCS), as soon as possible. As a reminder, all outstanding fees must be reconciled before your student can get their final report card.

TALENT SHOW UPDATE Due to the weather and many rescheduled events from last week, we are still tallying the judge’s decisions for the talent show and will send the results via email no later than this Friday afternoon. Ms. Bonno would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.

5TH GRADE PARENTS: 1:1 COMPUTER MEETINGS As many of you know, we will be rolling out a 1:1 Chromebook program beginning in the 2019-2020 school year. Each incoming 6th grader will receive a school-owned Chromebook that they will use throughout their time at St. Laurence. We are holding several parent information meetings prior to the start of school next year. We ask that current 5th grade parents attend one of the meetings. All meetings will be held in the school Dining Hall.

SUMMER LEARNING WORKBOOKS Summer learning loss puts students at a serious disadvantage. This is when skills and knowledge are lost over the summer months, causing students to move backward instead of progressing. By spending just minutes a day with Summer Solutions, students get the practice they need to keep moving forward. It was designed to help students return to school after summer break confident in the skills they’ve already learned and ready to master new ones. Make sure that progress sticks. Read more HERE!
