Initially used in luggage and military gear, the Cordurabrand portfolio has expanded to include fabrics for end-uses such as footwear, outdoor, ready- to-wear, and workwear products. Over the Cordurabrand’s forty-five year heritage, the research and de- velopment of fabrics originally de- signed for military/ tactical applica- tions has helped to revolutionise the strength, comfort and durability of materials also used in the brand’s denim, outdoor and workwear fab- ric offerings. One such example is CorduraNyco fabric, a 50/50 intimate blend of In- vista T420 high-tenacity nylon 6,6 (polyamide) with cotton, that pro- vides the comfort of cotton with built-in durability and abrasion re- sistance. This fabric technology was originally developed for lighter weight tactical uniforms to help sol- diers combat high humidity as well as abrasive desert conditions and enhance overall garment perfor- mance and longevity in these tough environments. Today, this same fabric technology has been introduced to the work- wear market where clothing has to be able to stand up to the demands of the work environment, but also be comfortable to wear in a range of working conditions. Using comfort- able CorduraNyco fabric with its ex- ceptional abrasion resistance – min- imum 3 times that of polyester/cot- ton workwear fabrics (*) helps pro- vide garments with greater wear life potential, which is a primary benefit for the workwear buyer tasked with sourcing clothing that is both stylish, comfortable and dura- ble. The original introduction of 50/50 T420 nylon 6,6/cotton blend woven Cordura Nyco fabrics for workwear has been followed by an expanded range that now also includes dura- ble lightweight 25/75 Invista T420 nylon 6,6/cotton blends in a variety of fabric weights from 215 gsm to 380 gsm. With the growth in today’s versatile yet performance driven lifestyles, these comfortably durableT420 ny- lon 6,6 based Cordurafabrics now have strong interest in the arena of outdoor and ready-to-wear too. CorduraDenim fabric has also been developed from the Nyco fabric technology originally used in mili- tary applications. First launched at Denim by Premiere Vision in Paris in May 2010, CorduraDenim fabric of- fers the authentic look, comfort and feel of traditional 100% cotton den- im with built-in long lasting durabil- ity. It too is also based on an inti- mate blend of Invista’s high tenacity nylon 6.6 fibre and cotton and offers over 4x improved abrasion resis- tance versus comparable weight 100% cotton denim. Tough World? For 45 years, Cordurafabric has been recognized as a fabric of

choice when durability counts. Initially used in luggage and military gear, the Cordurabrand portfolio has expanded to

include fabrics for end-uses such as footwear, outdoor, ready-to-wear, and workwear products.

Over the Cordurabrand’s forty-five year heritage, the research and de-velopment of fabrics originally de-signed for military/ tactical applica-tions has helped to revolutionise the strength, comfort and durability of materials also used in the brand’s denim, outdoor and workwear fab-ric offerings.

One such example is CorduraNyco fabric, a 50/50 intimate blend of In-vista T420 high-tenacity nylon 6,6 (polyamide) with cotton, that pro-

Since its initial introduction the CorduraDenim fabric range has ex-panded with the incorporation of added stretch, moisture manage-ment, and even para-aramid fibers. The stretch fabrics in this collection particularly help to maximise the freedom of movement of durable denim. Adding this functionality in-to CorduraDenim fabrics, has helped to raise the bar for these durability focused denims to even greater heights of comfort and perfor-mance, thus making them even

more well-rounded for a variety of performance driven activities such as skateboarding, hiking, climbing, cycling and even motorcycling.

Technology crossovers such as Cor-duraNyco and CorduraDenim fabric developments between the military/tactical, workwear, and outdoor clothing sectors have existed for some time and are sure to continue. Where future innovations will take fabrics remains to be seen, but un-doubtedly different sectors will con-tinue to share and leverage research and development to provide increas-ingly better solutions for comfort-able, durable performance clothing that will meet wearer demands. And for the Cordurabrand team, the mis-

sion is simple: “As Long As The World Is Full of Durable People, We’ll Keep Making

Durable Fabrics”. [www.cordura.com]
