Synopsis - The Story

13 year old Yusuf Pathan worked as a construction worker, drawing Rs.30 as daily salary.

He was rescued by the Bal Panchayat and sent back to School

In last 2.5 years, the Bal Panchayat has been successful in sending back children to school in 220 villages

Nearly 300 villages now have been covered under the Bal Panchayat revolution.

Bal Panchayat members meet every month to review ongoing projects and plan future ones.

To persuade reluctant students/parents, the Bal Panchayat organises village rallies and picketing outside homes.

The children also take up the responsibility of keeping schools clean, installation of educational aids, monitoring of midday meals and punctuality of teachers.

“These young kids are far more empowered than their urban counterparts. They can talk about issues with as much ease as they talk about films and music. I see future leaders of India in them" says Kiran Sharma, an NGO executive who works toward empowering the poorest areas of the country

“Now, the people in village have realised that what we are doing is for the good of the village. In fact, they feel proud of us” says one of the Bal Panchayat members
