Things you will need…

• A computer with the AS400 program.– A laptop works best, but you can still use a

desktop one.

• A Wireless Scanner.– An extra battery pack might be helpful.

• An inventory checklist.

Double Sign-on

• Sign on the first time.• Hold down the “Alt” key.• Touch the “Print Screen” key.• Press “1”.• Press “Enter”.• This should open a second sign on.• Follow the same “Alt, Print, 1, Enter”

procedure to go back to the 1st sign on.

Pull out the Inventory ChecklistInventory Checklist

1. Submit LM523 (Clear Inventory Items File). Note: Do only one time!

2. Submit LM524 (Clear Inventory Shortages File). Note: Do only one time!

3. Record the date you began scanning bar codes for the current inventory._______

4. Using an AS400 workstation to conduct inventory, scan inventory bar codes using LM521 (Maintain Inventory Items).

5. Submit LM522 (Update Inventory Shortage File) to determine which items are missing and to recover lost items.

6. Submit LM760 (Print Inventory Shortages Report) to print a report that lists the items reported missing form your library collection.

–Doing it a second time will make your entire inventory of books be labeled as lost.

Put “A2” in the space, enter and start

scanning

Scanning

• While scanning have the sound turned up on your computer.– If you make a mistake in

scanning the computer will “gong” at you.

• Books not attached to your inventory will show as errors. (listen for “gong”)– Pull them out and set them

aside to fix later.

• Scan every item with a textbook barcode.– Look in cupboards, under

desks, in drawers.

Pick your favorite “Report type”.

With textbooks I usually choose “Titles”

Make sure you have your printer’s “name”

in this space.

Cleaning up the mess

• If you forgot to scan something, it will be labeled “lost”.– Just check it in to put it

back in the inventory.
