Commission expert group =
• consultative body • set up by the Commission • providing advice and expertise (non-binding)• foreseen to meet more than once
Mandate of WGIAS
• assist DG Environment by providing high-level expertise in relation to the implementation of Regulation (EU) N°1143/2014 on invasive alien species;
• co-ordinate activities, exploit links between the different activities and discuss cross-cutting issues;
• facilitate the cooperation and exchange of good practices between the Commission, the Member States, other public entities and stakeholders.
Composition of WGIAS
Appointed after open call for applications:• individuals appointed in their personal capacity
(type A)• organisations in the broad sense of the word
(type C)• Member States' authorities (type D)• other public entities, such as third countries'
authorities, Union bodies, offices or agencies and international organisations (type E)
Operation of WGIAS
• DG ENV chairs meetings and provides the secretariat, including drafting of minutes
• DG ENV may invite other experts on ad hoc basis• No specific Rules of Procedure but horizontal
rules apply• Obligations of professional secrecy apply• Members are expected to contribute actively

Publication in Register of expert groups:• Names (type A-members), names of organisations
/ authorities (type C-, D- and E-members), interest represented and link to transparencyregister (type C-members)
• All relevant documents, including agendas, minutes and participants’ submissions

engage stakeholders• so that all relevant input can be channeled into the
process of consideration of species for inclusion on the Union list
• particularly in relation to the considerations under Article 4(6)
• report on possible mechanisms to improve the submission of relevant information
• provide recommendations
