Introduction

Goals of your websiteOur main goal of the website is making the website, THE place to download and upload summaries and mock exams. To reach this goal we will need students and teachers to provide us the corresponding material. We want to have at least half of IBMS using the website during exams period, we can observe that with the statistics provided by Wordpress. At the moment we almost reached 600 different visitors, but our goal is to grow even more by the time we release the summaries for second year (before TP2) and later on year 3 (date is not specified yet).

Our secondary goals are creating a reward system for the people “volunteering” for our website, in order to make it attractive for people to participate in sharing their work. Later on we would also like to open our own domain and insert a rating system for each summary, so that students can rate the different summaries in order to maintain a certain quality standard.

Website structure

As we explained during the first assignment, our website has to be clear and simple. Therefore we decided to sort it out by years and blocks in order to download the corresponding summary in a matter of 3 clicks.Since the website was already released before TP1, we have been able to observe the number of clicks used by each visitor I order to reach his goal by a simple calculation: the number of views/the number of visitors. The result of this calculation is displayed on Wordpress as views per visitor and equals to 3.10 on our website. In other words, the average visitor is clicking 3.10 times in order to find his goal, which is almost 3 clicks, thus our objective.

Website Design Requirements

The most important factor when designing my website was keeping it simple and clear for everyone visiting my website. That means that I had to let the visitor find what he wanted in the less amount of times and clicks, therefore I decided to divide it into years and blocks and adding an about page explaining why it was created and for what as well as a contact form.

We have chosen the template because it seemed to be something easy and modern, which fits to our target group. The colors are blue and black because we basically did not have the option to change them and the font is sans-serif since it has to be reader-friendly and it is on a screen.

Maintenance and MeasurementOur website will be maintained quarterly, 1-2 weeks before TP’s in order to be up to date to the new course guidelines. For maintenance we will need new summaries and new mock exams, in case we can’t get anything new, we will leave the old ones online since course guidelines don’t change that much from one year to another.We will measure our visitors by looking at the number of visitors and views on each page. Anyways, we are not expecting anyone to visit our website in the four first weeks of each block, since the students that visit our website are mostly students with a “last-minute” study type, as our statistics have shown. We have had over 2000 views and almost 600 visitors during TP1 and from the first week until the third week of the second block, we have had less than 200 views and 100 visitors.

Feasibility and FinancesBy now, my service is completely free. I just organize the website, maintain it and promote it with social media. Therefore I don’t need any financing. The numbers until now have shown that the project is feasible, that people use it and that people support it.But not everything is that easy, summaries are rarities and finding them and getting a permission to post them on our website is not always the easiest task. However, we observed a slightly positive trend of people sending us their summaries after launching their website.

ChallengesMy first problem when I started building the website was that I did not know how to use Wordpress properly because I was used to work with Weebly until now. However, with a lot of patience and a lot of tutorials I managed to work with the website-builder.My second and last challenge is and was finding content. I do not need to put much text in my website, students don’t want to read more than they have to. However, I still need to put the content I promised them: Summaries and Mock Exams. I needed to search, contact, ask and convince some people to get their summaries and put them online. On the other side I also had a few teachers that were strongly supporting the concept and were willing to give their own notes to all students.
