Open Word 2007
• Icon on desktop, OR• Start – All Programs – Microsoft Office –
Word 2007• Blank, untitled document will open• Other ways to create a new document:– Click the Office Button and select New– Keyboard shortcut: CTRL+N
• Open an existing document:– Click the Office Button and select Open– Keyboard shortcut: CTRL+O

Word 2007 Interface
• Word provides many tools• Some elements, such as the Ribbon and the
Office Button, appear in all Office programs• Tools are organized by function across the
Ribbons. • The Office Button includes commands.

The Office Button
• New• Open• Save / Save As• Print – Print Preview
• Close– Closes the document but not the program
• Word Options– Customize the program settings– Be careful when making changes

Quick Access Toolbar
• Keeps useful tool icons visible on all Ribbons
• Drop down menu allows the toolbar to be customized

Saving the Document
• Save or Save As?• Choose Save As– When saving a
document for the first time, changing the file name, change the format or file location
• Choose Save– To save changes while
working on a document

Entering Text
• Type – Do NOT press the Enter key at the end of each line– DO press the Enter key at the end of a paragraph– Press the Tab key to indent a paragraph
• Enter key = hard return– The Enter key creates a paragraph break
• Shift + Enter key = Soft Return (Word Wrap)– Creates a line break without creating a new
paragraph
