impossible to achieve – it’s an Image Myth

There are lots of negative consequences to trying to look like the Image Myth

Focussing on what we like about ourselves and our bodies, helps keep up our body confidence and of those around us.

The Learning Journey

Free Being Me will take girls on a journey, encouraging them to speak out against the Image Myth and in turn become more body confident through four simple steps.

 Definition

1  Identify the Image Myth

Defining the Image Myth, reflecting on their society and understanding of the issue, so they can see the relevance in their own lives.

2  Define the costs (down-sides) of the Image Myth

 Understanding that the Image Myth is impossible and has lots of costs, empowers them to challenge it.

3  Challenge the Image Myth

Expressing the alternative to the Image Myth and highlighting how it makes us unhappy, allows them to share determination to be free.

4 Inspire others to challenge the Image Myth 

 By planning and running their Take Action project, participants will both challenge the Image Myth and share this message with others.

At the end of each session, participants are given a personal challenge to complete before the next session.

The personal challenges provide girls with a chance to reflect on what they have learned, and use their learning in a different environment.

A) The activities marked with a star are essential activities. If you had limited time and were not able to do all the activities, you should at least do the starred activities to have the best possibility in changing girls’ body confidence.

At the end of Free Being Me, each group has the chance to share the Free Being Me message by planning and implementing a Take Action project.
