description

Twisting of an object due to an applied torque in the plane perpendicular to the axis. Load acting away from plane of bending will induce torsional moment along with bending moment and shear. It imparts angular displacement of one cross-section with respect to other. It setup shear stress on any cross section perpendicular to axis.Space frame, L beam, beams curved in plane, edge beam on slabs are some examples where torsion is present. These torsional moments are of two type:-Equilibrium torsion:- required for the basic static equilibrium of most of the statically determinate structure. It must be consider in design as its major componentsCompatibility torsion:- this torsion is required to satisfy compatibility condition between members of indeterminate structure.
