Getting to Know the CameraPoint and Shoot vs. DSLR show and

tell

Digital Camera – a camera that captures the photo not on film, but in an electronic imaging sensor that take the place of film.

Camera ModesAutomatic vs ManualWe will use automatic and

experiment with preset alternate modes.

The Exposure TriangleAperture, Shutter

Speed, & ISO

Aperture-small, circular opening inside the leans that can change in diameter to control the amount of light reaching the camera’s sensor as a picture is taken.

They all work together.

Aperture

Depth of Field changes

AperatureF-stopsThe lower the number,

the larger the aperature = less light in the camera.

The higher the number, the smaller the aperature = more light in the camera.

So, f/2.8 is larger than at f/8.

Shutter Speed- used to stop action or slow it

(depending on the speed setting used)

Ex. Splashing pool water, running basketball player, flying hair away from face, etc.

Ex. Blurry background of traffic, clear point of focus in the foreground

ISO-a rating of film’s sensitivity to

light (light sensor)Typically automatically adjusted

when using AUTO on point and shoot cameras.

Increase the ISO, photo quality decreases

Becomes grainy or “noisy.”
