The University of Zurich requires their researchers to deposit a copy of all their published scientific works in the Zurich Open Repository and Archive (ZORA) with open access, if there are no legal objections.

The University of Zurich encourages and supports their authors to publish their research articles in Open Access journals where a suitable journal exists and provides the support to enable that to happen.

The Annual Reports of the University of Zurich (Akademische Berichte) are based on ZORA starting from 2008. In the Annual Reports publications are only considered if they have previously been deposited in ZORA.

Primary publication (traditional publication cycle)

Secondary publication: Self-archiving in an openly accessible repository Subject-based (e.g. Pubmed) or institutional (e.g. ZORA)

Publishing contracts say wheater the article can be deposited in a repository

Often only accepted manuscript are allowed to be deposited

Why should you deposit accepted manuscripts? - So tax payers from outside the university have access to recent scientific research and

don‘t have to pay a second time - because open research results are cited more often - because it‘s a requirement from universities and (inter-)national scientific research

funders (SNSF, EU, …) - because it‘s a contribution to efficient research - Improved search results by search engines - … - Siehe auch: http://open-access.net/CH-EN/informationen-zu-open-access/gruende-und-vorbehalte/#c914

Full texts in PDF format

When publishing an article in a journal or book, authors often sign a copyright transfer agreement. Many publishers allow their authors to self-archive their articles with open access in an institutional repository such as ZORA - mostly they allow the accepted manuscript (author's post-print).
