1 – CHRYSLER NAVIGATION RADIOS.

Chrysler have since 1985 with the ”CLASS navigation” system been offering different types of navigation systems. The design philosophy have been that it should be no major visual difference between a radio unit with only FM radio and a fully loaded navigation radio. Nor should it be any visual differences between radios supplied by different undertakers, like Harman/Becker or Mitsubishi infotainment systems.

Different manufacturers and capabilities but same appearance.

Usually Chrysler's different radios are referred to with names such as MYGIG others as 8.4 uConnect depending on theire appearance not the actual function or capability. For eachone of above names about 10-20 different Chrysler radio model's fit in.

1.2 SALES CODES

To administrate the waste numbers of different types of Chrysler radios and their software they come up with the term ”sales codes”, in addition to the ”Part-number”. The sales code can be found in the instruction how to flash a car's BCM if a fresh installation needs to be made. On early radios the sales code was printed on the radios Faceplate.

For MYGIG following sales codes is common (but there are more)

USA: RER, REZ, RHR, RBZ, RHB, RBZ

GCC, OZ and South Africa: REP, RHP, REN. RB2

Europe: REW, RHW, REN, RB2

For 8.4 uConnect usually refers to:

USA: RA3, RA4, RB5, RB6

GCC, OZ and South Africa: RJ4, RJ3

Europe: RG3, RG4

In above examples sales code for countries and other exotic regions like China are excluded.

Harman/Becker does of course have their own much more technical detailed model number for each type of radio. For a 8.4AN uConnect radio with the sales code RA4 Harman/Becker have 3 sub-groups.. VP4 NA (USA), VP4 CA (Canada) and VP4 MX (Mexico).

On http://www.driveuconnect.com/ Chrysler shows several system with with the sales code and device name listed together.

What in USA is...

What in CANADA is...

The staff in the showroom is off course absolutely clueless about any difference between a USA radio and the counterpart in Canada (they looks the same don't they??). Small differences on the motherboard makes it all, a Canadian motherboard does not have the eCell function and a Mexican radio does not have any Sirius sat service.

Chrysler logistic system keeps track on various types of radios to make sure that a VP4 CA radios never goes to USA or Mexico. However, when dealers start to export cars over the borders things become more complicated and this create a challenge for Customtronix..

2.1 RAX SOFTWARE - and the I.C.O.S. brand

RAX software brand is used along side the I.C.O.S. (intelligent Code Operating System) brand for selling and promoting Customtronix Software. Under these brands RAX Conversion, RAX JailBreak, RAX Blu-ray, RAX CD and RAX DAB Enabler solutions is sold.

Each product is having different capabilities and can sometime be used in combination with another RAX product. A European customer may purchase both a Conversion to get EU database and European radio steps as well as a Jailbreak to get cargo camera and all the other features + a DAB Enabler to get digital radio.

Meanwhile a customer in USA can only utilise our Jailbreak offer as Conversion and DAB radio is not available for US. Customers.

3.1 RAX CONVERSION SOFTWARE - for OZ , EU and GCC

RAX Conversion software is only available for our Non North American Customers. Mostly, but not limited to, customers in: Europe (EU), Australia (OZ) and Gulf Co-operation Council - countries (GCC)..

It allows customers to parallel import a car from the street of USA to their country and make full use of their American RA3 or RA4 navigation radio. This also apply to Chrysler export cars with a export radio like RJ4 (VP4 ROW) radio.

American RA4 radios (by Harman/Becker called VP4 NA) that are converted to RG4 can off cause not have the European DAB as the North American version is missing a DAB module on the motherboard.

But a European RG4 radio (called VP4 ROW by Harman/Becker) that is converted to RJ4 (also called VP4 ROW by Harman/Becker) as both versions have the DAB module on the motherboard.

4.3 RAX JAILBREAK SOFTWARE – Bronze, Silver and Gold

Our JailBreak are the same type of products as Coastal Electronics Lockpicks but with important differences. It is only software based and has more features. No black box like Coastal’s lockpicks. Everything is in the software.

Currently we offers 3 levels of jailbreak. Of the Silver and Gold JailBreak we have several different versions to be able to meet as much personal design needs as possible.

Bronze is just software, Silver JailBreak is a basic cable for DIY and Gold JailBreak is for customer that in addition wants a cargo camera.

As Chrysler release new cars we update the software and the kit. We now have a Re-route mirror revcam to 8.4 Uconnect (such versions as RA4, RG4, RJ4) cable customers can use.

With the Silver kit and up we offers:

1. Lockout disabled

2. Front cam feature enable

3. Rev cam feature enable

4. Cargo cam feature enable or media (Media player, DVD) input

5. Force front cam feature

6. Force cargo cam feature

7. FrontView

8. ParkPro

9. SRT enable (viper logo) SRT is available for the RA3/RA4, RG3/RG4 and RJ3/RJ4 versions of the 8.4″ radio (but not for American customers as they usually have a sub type of the RA3 or RA4 radio (VP4 NA or VP4 NA).

The cars LIN-bus system limits the use of camera features over a certain speed (approx 5-10 mph). That means that when the cars speed meets the threshold the camera will disconnect. This can only be fixed by cutting cables in the car. Something you should not do.You will also loose guidelines.

Lockout works on cars with VES system. However, you must choose the Icon of source in the car navigation radio. For example: if you want to watch the Bluray/DVD you need to choose the “Disc Icon” on the navigation head (dash) unit and from there choose rear entertainment. If you want to watch the “AVI1″ you need to choose the “AV1 Icon” on the navigation head unit and from there chose rear entertainment.

VES - If your car is equipped with VES (Vehicle entertainment system, Not seen in any RAM's). You will have one video input (port) less! This is due to the fact that the VES system is occupying one of them. This is not something negative since you have several video inputsfrom the VES including HDMI.

4.3.1 RAX JAILBREAK SOFTWARE – add Apple TV or other media.

Jailbreak does not offer internet connectivity (like YouTube, Apple TV etc) alone. For that you needs to add hardware like a HDMI converter. The radio has no Video software nor do Jailbreak, you must stream what you like to see on the screen from something (iPhone, DVD player etc).

As long as you can stream it (or run it from iPhone memory) you can watch any multimedia or Video presentation (like YouTube) you like.

However, Chrysler radios (Harmen/Becker) does not have any digital input why we can not add any HDMI input directly to your radio. Any digital signal needs to be converted to analog.

4.3.2 RAX JAILBREAK SOFTWARE – apps and SRT.

Jailbreak does not remove or prevent the use of any apps. Only American customers can have US. Apps. Canadian RA3/RA4 (With a VP3/VP4 CA) radio can not as they don't have any eCell on their motherboard.

However, it is pretty common issue! when you upgrade the software that whatever apps you have, disappear for a while. This is due to the update software is wiping all the information in the radio. But it will come back when the Uconnect (eCell) gets online again, it can take 3 days for some customers in remote areas to get their apps back. Its a ecell connection issue.

Many customers in USA ask for the SRT app. Only if the car have the SRT app from factory (usual referred to as ”SRT-car”) the car can have the SRT app. Why?? Its Chrysler policy. Actually, we install SRT on all US. cars but the system runs a system check and when it discover SRT it un-installs the SRT app.

Many of our customer reports that they have SRT after installing JB but the day after the SRTis gone. This limitation only applies for customers in the USA with RA3 or RA4 radios (VP3 NA or VP4 NA). Customers in Canada and Europe and in any other part of the world can have the SRT app.

4.3.3 RAX JAILBREAK SOFTWARE – Installation.

With every order a email is sent out with instructions READ IT. If you are unhappy with our jailbreak of for some unforeseen reason want to reset your jailbreak you may ask for a Rollback software. Our Rollback is a program that restore the radio to factory standard. Like from a JailBreak back to factory.

You can only use a Token in the car that you have given the VIN number for. You can not usethe Token file to activate JailBreak on any other car (VIN number check will stop that). However, you can run the installation several times in that car… like JailBreak-Rollback-JailBreak-Rollback-JailBreak.

You can NOT move the Radio between cars. If you move the radio you must purchase a newToken file for the new car VIN.

4.3.4 RAX JAILBREAK SOFTWARE – Hardware.

To accomplish a full integration into the vehicles own CAN-bus infrastructure, Customtronix includes hardware's in all Jailbreak kits with the exception of the Bronze kit. The cable harness is currently in 3 different versions, what version that is delivered to the customer depends on the information the customer leaves when ordering.

Silver plus (+), JailBreak Gold PLUS (+) Black edition, JailBreak

For Chrysler 2015 and up cars that have Gold PLUS (+) + Gold PLUS (+) Black edition, JailBreakoth cargo camera and rear camera Chrysler is using the rear mirror to show the cargo camera view. Customtronix offer a re-route to the dash screen. The fix is both softwareand hardware related.

Cargo Cam Reroute- For cars with OEM Cargo cam and Rev cam in the rear view mirror- If you choose to re-route the rev cam to the head unit you will not have any extra video inputs for external video devices (this could be fixed by installing a video switch).

All of our hardware is made to order by factories in China. Nothing is bought or can be found on the Internet. Every camera, wire, cable or harness comes with a unique specification to make sure that it will work in Chrysler cars along side our software.

Nevertheless we advice all customers to use a professional installation service to avoid damaging the car. There is about 20 ways to power up a jailbreak with camera and accessories.. only one method is the best.

In a big country like USA with good statics, more than 500 fatal car fires is reported every year (excluding car crashes). A number of them is related to substandard electric installations. About 30% is rated as ”unknown” but often appears in the dash region.

Professional installation service is a good way to avoid problems.

4.3.5 RAX JAILBREAK SOFTWARE – VES, RearCam and CargoCam issues.

The inputs we use is originally intended for the VES system! These video inputs are fine-tuned to work for Videos played over the VES, if the picture was covering (stretched out) overthe full screen it would have the wrong aspect/ratio. Nothing is missing from the source signal, it's just like a 16:9 TV.

The Cargo-Cam is more or less the same but here Chrysler have moved up the pictures to have room for the system icons. Used for controlling and tuning the VES system etc. Same thing, no missing information from the source signal, the picture it´s just moved up and the aspect is correct (which it would not be if the video signal was stretched out to cover the full screen).

4.3.6 RAX JAILBREAK SOFTWARE – VES, RearCam and CargoCam pic. quality.

Cam picture quality is of concern for many customers. Noticeable when cams have different picture quality between them. However, there are little we can do to circumvent the laws of physics..

A camera with a small lens are more prone to deliver bad or low quality picture output during poor light conditions compared to cameras with a big lens. To some degree it is possible to compensate the small size with strong lamps. But under the same circumstances the difference will still be there.

Another factor is long un-sheilded camera cables that goes close to power sources or magnetic fields. Identical cameras with identical installations will show somewhat different picture quality depending on the length of the camera cable and how the camera cable is installed.

Other factors such as PAL or NTSC and the composite system specification adds to complexity. Customtronix tries to find new and better solutions but there are always possible to get more of the same inside a bigger camera.

Often the visual difference is more annoying than a practical shortcoming.

5.4 RAX CD AND BLURAY SOFTWARE - CD and Bluray player.

For Customtronix European customers we offer Bluray software integration. The modification needs to be done in our workshop. We can not offer this to other markets as the region coding stops customer from playing American region 1 coded videos on a European coded 2 players.

Our own RAX OEM CD player Kit is available for customers worldwide and contains one OEM CD-player with housing and cable harness for plug & play + RAX software. It will enable the CD-player via the navigation menu just like it was factory installed. Works on sales code: RJ4, RA4, RG4.

The Lockout is disabled and SRT logo works (but USA customer can not have the SRT app or logo).

6.1 RAX DAB ENABLER – for digital radio.

Most export cars (EU, OZ and GCC) does not have a DAB antenna. Customtronix offer software integration. Our software and a standard DAB antenna enables the RG4 and similarversions to use the DAB function.

USA customers with RA3 or RA4 can not use our DAB Enabler as they have a completely different system (Sirius sat. radio).

USA customers do not have DAB on their RA3 or RA4 motherboard and if a EUROPEAN or OZ customers import a car with a US. radio they can not add DAB as the American motherboard is missing that module. Nor can they use the American Sirius sat radio as the sat is out of range (it only covers continental USA)..
