The skills and knowledge acqui r ed th r ough this training will assist in obtaining employment in the Aboriginal Tourism Field. This 5 week “Introduction to Aboriginal Cultural Tour- ism” program will provide an opportunity for aboriginal participants to explore the aboriginal tourism industry. Participants will examine the opportunities, benefits, and potential impacts of aboriginal cultural tourism. Examples and case studies from northern BC and other parts of the world are used. Participants are to explore the fundamentals of marketing aboriginal tourism prod-ucts. Particular attention will be paid to the specific characteristics of tourists interested in aboriginal tour-ism, aboriginal tourism product preferences. Partici-pants will also explore the principles and apply the fundamentals of developing cultural tourism products. Using real example, participants will work to develop products that provide meaningful, authentic cultural exchanges that address visitor motivations.
