life completely be dictated by food planning, failures and anger

towards herself. Until the moment of truth.

While crying in the GPs room she had to admit that something very

unhealthy was going on and she was referred to an Eating Disorder

Clinic.

Totally at ease now with food and her body, Mariette understands

the emotional seesaw of serial dieters, who have an unhealthy

relationship with food and their bodies, and who might even be

bordering on an eating disorder. She is also a trained

psychotherapist, psychological coach and speaker and fully

comprehends how mind and emotions play a role in the emotional

process of losing weight.

Leonie Wright was suffering from high blood pressure, migraines and

a very unhealthy cholesterol level. She reversed her symptoms by

changing her life style through food and exercise. She is passionate

about informing, motivating and encouraging people to eat the right

foods so that they can reach an optimum in their health, fitness and

waist line.

Leonie Wright, founder of EatWright, is a nutrition coach, speaker

and author of CookWright, a ‘no added sugar’ recipe book.

She helps people to be healthier, fitter and slimmer through a

change in eating habits. Her approach is designed to support

‘normal’ living, eating normal food, but a few twists make it specific

for maintaining an optimum in your health and fitness levels.

Forever.

Leonie has helped over 200 people, who suffered from health

conditions such as diabetes 2, high blood pressure and IBS.

The three REAL reasons why diets never worked for you

The original Greek word diet, means way of eating. In this day and

age, it is mainly referring to a weight loss diet and the aim of the diet

is to get you shed the pounds. The weight loss market is a billion

dollar industry, ever growing, which demonstrates that what is on

offer, what is promised and what people spend their money on

doesn’t work.

Did you know that 95% of diets fail in the long term?

There is no reason to be surprised that you are one of billions of

people who unsuccessfully have tried to lose weight with the

current systems (diet programmes, pills, shakes, etc.).

It doesn’t work.

You know that.

And you think it is your fault.

Which of course, it is not.

You are one of the victims of the commercial myths around diets.

This report will reveal what has prevented you from successful

weight loss. We are presenting the three main myths which, in our

opinion, are the reasons that diets do NOT WORK, not in general and

not for you!

Page 6: Introduction · She helps people to be healthier, fitter and slimmer through a change in eating habits. Her approach is designed to support normal living, eating normal food, but

Myth one: it is all about willpower

Truth: it is all about belief

A mistake that most ‘dieters’ make is that they tell themselves it is all

about willpower. And it is not. Willpower is not a buddy, it is not a

source of friendly support, it is more like a battery. A battery that

becomes depleted, the more it is used. If willpower is your source of

strength, then earlier or later, you will lose the battle, as the battery

is empty. Every internal negotiation around a choice of food or

indulgence uses up bits of the willpower energy.

And the energy is not only used by conscious efforts of sticking to a

diet, it is also undermined by your subconscious.

Many of us have a niggle deep down in our subconscious that is

whispering in our ear and repeating in our head: ‘You can’t do it. You

are not strong enough. You have tried hundreds of times. You are

just weak.’

Page 7: Introduction · She helps people to be healthier, fitter and slimmer through a change in eating habits. Her approach is designed to support normal living, eating normal food, but

Page 7

This niggle of non-believe will never stop showing you, that you are a

failure. ‘Look, you are doing it again. Oh dear, typical you. There you

go wrong, same old story.’ Not only around sticking to a diet, but it

spills over in other areas of your life.

In order to make changes in your life, it is essential you BELIEVE you

can do it.

First step is to believe in yourself!

‘Whenever you say you can and whenever you say you can’t,

you are absolutely right’ – Henry Ford

Keep an eye on the language you are using as words are the carrier

of our subconscious and if you say to yourself things like, ‘it is really

difficult’ and ‘I am not sure I can stick to it’, you get an indication of

the belief that you can’t do it.

Psychologist Albert Bandura is using the word self-efficacy as one's

belief in one's ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a

task. One's sense of self-efficacy plays a major role in how one

approaches challenges. If deep down the belief is lacking, it will

affect your determination and your perseverance when the going

gets tough. As you don’t believe you will succeed, you might as well

give up now, knowing that you will give up at one stage anyway.

Ask yourself and answer brutally honest (just to yourself): ‘Do you

really, really believe that you can do it?’

If the answer is not a full-on yes – you have some work to do that has

nothing to with dieting

Myth two: setting a goal is key for success

Truth: it is about finding an emotional motivator that will support

your success

Did you set yourself a target weight? A target date? Like a wedding, a

school reunion or a holiday?

This is psychologically an external target: a goal that has nothing to

do with your emotional motivator, it is superficial and when the date

has gone or the moment has passed, you have nothing to get you

going anymore.

Real ‘targets’ are emotional; they touch deeper into your psyche and

are touching you and your emotions on a personal level.

Page 9: Introduction · She helps people to be healthier, fitter and slimmer through a change in eating habits. Her approach is designed to support normal living, eating normal food, but

On the inside.

If you want to be successful, you need to have an EMOTIONAL

internal motivator.

Let’s explain with an example. You want to lose weight because you

want to be slim and attractive when you go to the school reunion.

As I mentioned above, that is an external target. However, it is

connected with an internal, emotional motivator. You are just not

aware of that.

This is how it works:

Target: I want to look slim and attractive during the school reunion

Q: Why is that important?

A: Because I will look better than I do now

Q: Why is it important to look good?

A: Because I will feel better in myself

Q: In what way will you feel better?

A: I will feel more confident

Q: What does confidence give you?

A: I will not be so nervous and feel less than the others

Page 10: Introduction · She helps people to be healthier, fitter and slimmer through a change in eating habits. Her approach is designed to support normal living, eating normal food, but

Page 10

Q: Do you feel less than others?

A: Yes, I do

Q: Would you like to feel equal to other people?

A: I absolutely would love it

Q: Would you feel equal to other people when you lose weight?

A: Yes, I would

Q: Would you agree that feeling equal to others is your motivation.

And if weight loss supports that, would you be motivated to stick to

your diet?

A: Yes, it would

Q: Would it be fair to say that gaining confidence and feeling equal to

others is a goal? And that weight loss would contribute to you

achieving that goal?

A: Yes, it would

Second step is redefining your emotional internal motivator.

NEW TARGET: my emotional motivator is to become confident in

myself and weight loss is part of that, but I know that I need to do

some psychological work on myself as well.

Myth three: losing weight is about going on a diet and eating less

Truth: it is about nurturing your body, giving it all it needs to

function optimally

Dieting is so popular that in the past 10 years it's estimated that

around 70 per cent of the adult female population and 30 per cent

of all adult males have been on one.

Unfortunately, the results for most people are similar: success in the

short term, failure in the longer term.

How dieting impacts the body

Every body (we mean literally ‘body’) is physiologically

different and we all have different needs and requirements.

One diet may work wonders for your neighbour, but might

not be the right plan for you.

Why do you think there are so many diets around?

Because there is not one diet that fits all bodies.

Page 12: Introduction · She helps people to be healthier, fitter and slimmer through a change in eating habits. Her approach is designed to support normal living, eating normal food, but

Page 12

When you start a conventional diet, you will literally starve

your body. If you stop eating, your body will scream for food.

And you are fighting against the most powerful instinct in

the world: SURVIVAL. No wonder you find it hard.

When your body doesn’t get enough nutrition, it will

respond by slowing down the metabolism to conserve

energy. The basic functionality of the body continues, but

there is no ‘spare’ energy. As a result the body is tired and

you will experience that as lack of energy.

Fat is one of the main energy providers and the moment the

deprived body is presented with food, it will store it as fat.

That explains why you would gain weight quickly when you

stop with a diet, as a diet will encourage the body to create

fat cells.

In normal circumstances, your body uses different sources of

fuel: protein, carbohydrates and fat from food. When this is

not available, the body choses to use muscle tissue as my

fuel.

Irregular and insufficient food intake affects your blood

sugar levels. When these drops, you will get a craving.

Usually a craving is about unhealthy options….. sugar, fat

and salt!

Third step is finding a way of eating that nurtures the body, helps it

to burn fat and keep it feeling happy and satisfied is key to a

successful weight loss programme.
