The is an up-flow, moving bedfilter that is constructed with highlyadvanced media depths for differentapplications and configurations. Rawwater enters near the top and is led to thebottom of the tank by means of a waterdistributor. Iron, Manganese, Hydrogensulfide, Arsenic and other heavy metalsare filtered out as the raw water flows upthrough the media bed. As the waterreaches the top of the filter, it passes overthe effluent weir as filtrate and isdischarged. A small portion of the filtrateis diverted through the media washer andused for cleaning and transferring thewaste solids.
The filter employs abackwash rinse that is performedcontinually while the tank is processingwater. An air lift pump, located at thecentre of the module draws the mediafrom the bottom of the filter up into thewash box. As the media is released intothe wash box, it falls into the mediawasher where the filtered solids areseparated from the Katalox Light. Fromthere, the filtrate carries the solids out aswaste (backwash). The washed KataloxLight falls down onto the media bed forcontinued use.
Each air lift pump is adjusted andregulated by the pneumatic cabinetsupplied with the installation.
PROVEN PROCESS
The amount of wash water used can besignificantly reduced by running the KataloxLight pump intermittently. This is achieved bythe use of an optional wash water valve, anda solenoid in the pneumatic cabinet. This isespecially valuable in ground watertreatment, but has proven equally effectivealso in other applications such as in wastewater applications, e.g. tertiary treatment.When running the Katalox Light pump incycles the energy cost is also reduced due tothe decrease of the air consumption, andletting the Katalox Light bed restintermittently can result in a higher qualityfiltrate.
