VALEO SCALA®

Valeo's SCALA® laser scanner is the first laser scanner for the automotive volume

production. This technology is a key enabler for highly automated driving thanks to its

unique combination of a large detection range, wide field of view and accuracy.

Valeo SCALA® scans the area in front of the vehicle and detects vehicles, motorbikes,

pedestrians and static obstacles. Using the collected data, the scanner enables the creation

of a map of the environment allowing to analyze and anticipate events around the vehicle.

This technology as well serves to enhance active safety by initiating measures such like

evasion maneuvers or emergency braking.

HEAD-UP DISPLAY

As part of its concept of "Intuitive Driving", Valeo has identified the Head-Up

Display as the best solution to limit driver distraction. The projection of

information on the vehicle's windscreen in the driver's field of vision, prevents

him to divert his attention from the road.

Building on its expertise in optics, shown through its lighting and signaling systems, as well as its

expertise in screens, air conditioning control panels and smart faceplates, Valeo is today able to offer a

full range of Head-Up Display systems.

Furthermore, aware of the challenge that still represents an integration within the dashboard, Valeo has

developed several patented technical solutions to reduce the size of the product by 10 to 20% compared

to existing products.

The main characteristics of the Head-Up Display offered by Valeo are: •The projection system on the windshield or on a combiner

The Valeo smart faceplate is the result of research into the best balance between

safety, intuitivity, comfort, performance and style. Modular approaches provide solutions

for all vehicle types, from entry-level right up to "premium".

Today's cars offer increasingly sophisticated air-conditioning and "infotainment"

systems. These comfort features are very desirable, but can overload the central area

of the dashboard with a complex array of different controls.

TOP COLUMN MODULES (TCM)

Valeo is one of the most experienced TCM (Top Column Module) suppliers,

offering high-end Top Column solutions for the entire automotive market

worldwide. From city cars through luxury sedans, via the most demanding truck

specifications: they're all fitted with Valeo TCM modules.

The functional diversity of the new Valeo TCM

modules means they can be adapted to innovative

automotive architectures with the flexibility of modular

units and a highly developed integrated design.

In addition to its key indicator and wiper functions, the

THE SMART SCREEN

The Valeo smart screen is the result of research into the best balance between price and

performance, putting touchscreen connectivity within everyone's reach. It is suitable for all

types of vehicles, particularly those in the entry-level ranges (A, B and C segments).

The smart screen provides infotainment functions in all vehicles and is an optimum solution in terms of cost

and size.

Two factors contributed to this performance:

Integration: the electronic control system has been built in right behind the screen, reducing the need for

interconnect systems, harnesses and a separate ECU.

Standardization: the use of standardized components has made it possible to reduce the overall cost of

STEERING WHEEL SWITCHES

Valeo has analyzed in detail the current trends to note that the controls on

steering wheel, although at your fingertips, became unintuitive and difficult to use

in a driving situation due to the increasing number of buttons.

To reduce the risk of driver distraction, Valeo has developed innovative solutions of

reconfigurable controls on the steering wheel.

Through different technologies, Valeo offers a range of solutions to limit to 5 or 6 the

number of buttons on each side of the wheel, while commanding fifteen functions. Indeed,

the switches are grouped by application type (ADAS, infotainment, onboard computer,

telephone ...) in order to avoid a too high number of buttons. Depending on the degree of

range, the choice of the application can be done either mechanically by the user, or

automatically based on the context. For example an incoming phone call can

automatically launch the phone application.

TELEMATICS MODULE

Valeo develops standalone telematics solutions for vehicle

Valeo has extended the capabilities of its Passive Entry Passive Start system to

integrate new uses and behaviors related to the Internet of Things, typified by

such devices as smartphones and smartwatches. In a world first, Valeo launch a

smartwatch system that allows drivers to lock and unlock their vehicles.

Once inside the car, the driver’s

smartphone is detected, allowing him or

her to start the vehicle. The smartphone-

PASSIVE ENTRY PASSIVE START SYSTEM

The Passive Entry Passive Start system offers greater ease of use for car

drivers and passengers.

Valeo’s hands-free access and start system allows the user to automatically lock and unlock the car

doors without taking the key out of a bag or pocket.

The engine is started simply by pushing the ignition button.

To lock the vehicle, the user just moves away from it with the key, or touches a button or specific area on

one of the door handles, depending on the ergonomic solution chosen by the manufacturer.

Sensors which automatically

control wipers are increasingly fitted

as standard on modern vehicles.

Valeo, one of the leading suppliers

of rain sensors, has developed this

The sensor not only measures the volume of rain: it also automatically activates and

deactivates low-beam lamps depending on ambient light levels.

360VUE® SURROUND VIEW SYSTEM

Making parking and maneuvering not just easier, but above all, safer.

On many new vehicle models, drivers have

little visibility with regard to their immediate

surroundings. Side and rear windows are

becoming increasingly small, while the exterior

shape of vehicles is dictated by aerodynamics

and pedestrian safety, meaning precise, secure

maneuvering and parking are almost

impossible.

Valeo’s multi-camera system helps the driver

by providing a perfect view of the vehicle’s

environment. Miniature cameras record the

surroundings and transmit the images to an

intelligent control unit, which carefully

processes them and optimizes them before

displaying them on the vehicle’s color screen.

The new 360Vue® 3D system gives not only full visibility right around the vehicle in a view from above,

but also a 3-dimensional view of the vehicle’s environment. The driver can perform maneuvers or leave a

parking space safely, with excellent visibility of all obstacles in the vicinity of the vehicle and the capacity to

see into all blind spots.

LANE CHANGE ASSISTANCE SYSTEM

An intuitive and reliable lateral alert system.

Changing lanes always poses a risk, especially if a vehicle in the neighboring lane is going faster.

Then there is the blind spot to consider – an area behind the car that is not visible in the external

rearview mirrors. Valeo’s Lane Change Assist system alerts the driver if there are vehicles in this area or

vehicles approaching rapidly from the rear. This information is extremely valuable, especially if the driver

suddenly decides to change lane.

LANEGUIDE®

Unintentional lane departures are often the cause of dangerous situations and accidents.

Valeo’s LaneGuide® helps avoid these situations by alerting the driver before the vehicle

crosses the line, and even by gently bringing it back into the correct lane.

The system uses a compact camera located behind the interior rearview mirror, on the windshield.

This camera can also perform a number of other impressive functions. In addition to the

LaneGuide® feature, it can activate Valeo’s BeamAtic system, interpret road signs, and even warn

the driver when the distance between the vehicle and the one in front becomes critical.

PARK4U®

Parking is child’s play with the latest generation semi-automatic

parking assistance system.

Park4U® parks a vehicle in

just a few seconds. Ultrasonic

sensors scan the sides of the

road to detect a suitable

space.

The parking maneuver takes

place in the usual way, but in

hands-free mode.

As soon as the car has

stopped and the reverse gear

has been engaged, the system

takes over the steering, while

the driver continues to control

the speed of the vehicle with

the accelerator and brake.

During the parking maneuver, ultrasonic sensors in front and to the rear

help the driver to use the available space as efficiently as possible,

providing additional security.

If the driver so wishes, the maneuver can be ended at any time: as soon

as the steering wheel is touched, the system automatically deactivates.

Valeo has developed Cruise4U®, a prototype automated driving on highway or

motorway alike road that allows the driver to decide whether to drive manually or

prefer to delegate this task.

Cruise4U® uses the technology of Valeo SCALA laser scanner, which enables a highly automated

driving thanks to its extended detection range, wide field of vision and precision, which offer a unique

Sightstream® is a new camera system that replaces

traditional wing mirrors, improving the motorist’s perception

of driving conditions and reducing fuel consumption.

Cameras are installed where the interior rearview mirror and exterior side mirrors are usually

mounted: what used to be seen outside the car is now viewed on the inside. At the same time, the

driver’s side vision is enhanced by making the images clearer and easier to see, in all weather.

DRY DOUBLE CLUTCH

Transmission automation: the Valeo Dry Double Clutch is the optimal

answer to consumer expectations and CO2 targets.

Transmission automation is a growing global

trend.

Several technologies contribute to this feature:

Automatic Transmissions, Automated Manuel

Transmissions and Double Clutch Transmissions.

The Double Clutch Transmission cuts CO2

emissions by between 6% and 10% compared to a

traditional Automatic Transmission.

There are two double clutch technologies: wet and

dry.

Valeo has designed a Dry Double Clutch module

with lower CO2 consumption and emissions than

a Wet Double Clutch.

In addition, its design features fewer components

than competing products, which makes it more

reliable.

ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGER

The electric supercharger combines fun-to-drive with a reduction in fuel

consumption.

As part of its strategy of developing solutions

to reduce CO2 emissions, Valeo is the first

automotive supplier to offer its customers a

range of electric superchargers, enhancing

thedynamic response of engines at low

revolutions while optimizing the

performance of the combustion engine.

Unlike turbochargers driven by exhaust gas,

the electric supercharger (operating with an

electric motor) responds instantaneously.

This strengthens engine torque at low

revolutions, eliminates turbo lag and improves

the vehicle's acceleration.

HYBRID4ALL

Valeo’s Hybrid4All system is the result of a better trade-off between price and

performance, making hybrid technology affordable for everyone. It is suitable for

all types of vehicle, particularly entry-level vehicles (A, B and C segments).

Hybrid4All combines a conventional combustion engine with a low-power electric engine, generating up to 15% reductions in

fuel consumption and halving the cost per gram of CO2 saved compared to a hybrid on the market today.

Three factors have contributed to this performance:

simplification: the system has been optimized, using a single electric motor and single electronic unit. The size of the system's

components has been optimally reduced to the strict minimum.

standardization: the use of standardized components has reduced the overall cost of the system,

integration: integration by the automakers has been simplified, requiring no changes to the transmission, since the electric

motor replaces the starter.

This system will enable automakers to meet the future European target of 95g of CO2 per kilometer to be introduced in

2020.

CHARGER-INVERTER

Valeo offers specific solutions for electric vehicles that perform

effectively at an affordable cost and can be produced on a large scale,

such as the integrated charger-inverter.

The inverter converts direct current (DC) from the battery

into the alternating current (AC) required by the electric

motor to turn the wheels.

The charger performs the same task in reverse: the AC

voltage is turned into DC voltage in order to charge the

battery in a hybrid plug-in vehicle or an all-electric vehicle.

In order to reduce the cost of the electronic components

required for a hybrid or electric vehicle to function, and

provide more affordable solutions, Valeo has developed

a converter which, in addition to its conventional

functions, provides a charging feature thanks to its

unique architecture.

This charge-inverter allows for both the slow charge and

rapid charge function, at no cost, while at the same time

offering significant reductions in terms of weight and size.

In addition, with its unique architecture that incorporates

a voltage step up, the charger-inverter offers a very high

output, and increases autonomy by around 10%.

SYSTEMS – STOP-START

Valeo offers a complete range of Stop-Start solutions, both belt driven ( i-

StARS starter-alternator) and starter based ( ReStart reinforced starter).

In the city, vehicles are stationary for almost 35% of the time, with their engine’s idling needlessly. The Stop-Start system

automatically switches the engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill and restart the engine immediately, as soon as the

driver lifts his foot off the brake or disengages the clutch, leading to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

Two Valeo systems, the i-StARS starter-alternator and the ReStart reinforced starter, make this automation possible. These

systems are compatible with gasoline and diesel engines, and both manual and automatic gearboxes.

The Stop-Start system provides fuel savings of up to 6% in European standard mixed cycle use, and savings of up to 15% in

congested city driving.

ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER

Controlling air flow for enhanced performance and comfort.

Located in the front end of the vehicle, Valeo’s Active

Grill Shutter controls and adjusts air flow to improve

the vehicle’s aerodynamics and thermal performance

using a system of controlled shutters. Its design has

been optimized for air circulation and watertightness.

Most vehicles are designed with air inlets that allow for

effective thermal management in extreme conditions

such as in very hot weather or with a heavy engine

load. The air that circulates beneath the hood reduces

aerodynamic performance. So Valeo has designed the

Active Grill Shutter: integrated into the front-end

module of the vehicle, it varies air distribution by

opening and closing in line with the real thermal needs

of the vehicle.

In ordinary driving conditions, the shutters are closed

to reduce vehicle consumption and improve thermal

and acoustic comfort.

ACTIVE GRILLE SHUTTER

Providing thermal comfort to each of the vehicle’s occupants.

The HVAC unit is a system that heats or cools air drawn

from outside the vehicle and distributes it to the various

passengers at the required temperature.

Valeo offers a full range of HVAC systems that fulfill

automakers’ specifications and users’ needs, covering

both manual and automatic air conditioning, as well as

delivering ventilation from one to six zones in the vehicle,

offering an excellent level of comfort and personalization.

Multi-zone HVAC systems provide optimum comfort for

each passenger, but other technologies and features can

be added:

Individual temperature adjustment for each vehicle zone: It is now possible for each passenger to

manage individually the temperature and air flow in their own zone. Valeo is also working on new-

generation air conditioning systems that reduce energy consumption while improving the autonomy of

hybrid and electric vehicles. The systems cut air flow when a zone is unoccupied, while increasing air

recirculation to improve local comfort (by recycling air already heated or cooled in the cabin, it takes less

time for the required temperature to be reached, thereby avoiding excess energy consumption).

Air treatment: Valeo offers personalizable controls to improve air quality inside the cabin: a fragrance

diffuser to create a relaxing or reviving atmosphere, an air purifier (featuring an ionizer to eliminate

unpleasant odors thanks to positive ions and to create a calming environment thanks to negative ions),

and an anti-allergen cabin filter to neutralize allergens carried in with pollens.

AIR-CONDITIONING LOOP

Thermal comfort, must for the driver.

In the car, driver comfort is essential.

The air-conditioning system is made of

an air circuit and a closed refrigerant

circuit (air-conditioning loop) and is

mandatory to create cabin comfort, but

can absorb 5% to 12% of a thermal

engine power and up to 50% of the

power of an electric engine. Highly

aware of environmental issues and

forthcoming regulations, Valeo is

looking for innovative ways to improve

energy efficiency and avoid losses, not

just for vehicles with thermal engines

(which run on fossil fuels - oil) but also

for hybrid and electric vehicles.

For electric vehicles, it is possible to mount a heat pump system which operates like a reversible air-

conditioning system. This system captures calories from the exterior air, delivering them to the vehicle

interior in heating mode and, conversely, evacuates calories from the cabin air to the outside in air-

conditioning mode. This system generates significant energy efficiencies and therefore improves battery

autonomy.

BATTERY THERMAL MANAGEMENT

Valeo offers optimal thermal management for electric vehicles.

Today, the environment is central in the

automotive world’s debate. Environmental

standards require European automakers to

reduce CO2 emissions. Valeo is

developing systems to guarantee the

optimal thermal management of electric

vehicles in order to support automakers in

their search for alternative motorization

solutions to the traditional internal

combustion engine.

Electric vehicles need batteries to perfom.

They are expensive and very delicate :

they are subject to weather variations and

heat up, notably while the vehicle is being

charged.

To ensure the longevity and performance of the battery, its temperature must be maintained

between 20°C and 40°C and must not be subjected to sudden changes in temperature. Valeo

offers battery thermal management systems, based on air cooling systems and on liquid cooling

solutions using cold plates placed in contact with the batteries.

TWO-VANE ROTARY COMPRESSOR

The new two-vane rotary compressor for more compact

vehicles.

Valeo has been producing air-conditioning

compressors for more than 50 years. Vane

rotary compressors are one of the main

products in Valeo’s line of thermal products.

Valeo’s first five-vane rotary compressor,

launched in 1980, was a world first.

Today, with years of experience behind it,

Valeo is offering a new simple two-vane

rotary compressor which is developed to

meet the needs of compact vehicles

throughout the world. The first models are

being produced in Thailand for automakers.

AIR INTAKE MODULE

An innovative solution that combines performance with a compact design.

The air intake module developed by Valeo helps to improve the efficiency

of turbo-charged combustion engines. Thus it contributes to reduction of

fuel consumption and reduction of the level of pollutant emissions.

Furthermore the time to torque is shortened meaning the vehicle’s

acceleration behavior is improved.

REVERSIBLE MOTOR

With reversible motors, wiper system becomes more intelligent and silent.

Thanks to integrated electronics and software,

reversible motors offer precision wiping, noise

reduction, optimized wiper motor sizing and

increased wiper blade life. This contributes to

improve safety and comfort, CO2 emission

reductions and lower cost of ownership.

Regardless of vehicle speed, wiping speed and

rain conditions, the system wipes closer to the

windshield pillars, increasing visibility and

safety. The electronics allow for the wipers to

be positioned under the hood when they are

not in use and control the motor speed

especially at blade reversal. This limits noise

both during operation and at iddle thanks to an

undisturbed air stream. When not in use the

rubber element position is alternated, reducing

the rubber permanent set phenomenon and

therefore increasing wiper blade life.

An innovative wiping system for maximized visibility.

The revolutionary AquaBlade® wiping

system delivers fluid directly ahead of

the wiping blade through channels and

holes integrated along its entire length.

This enables an unobstructed view of the

road during windshield cleaning, while

reducing by half the amount of fluid

required.

AquaBlade® significantly improves

visibility, thus increasing driving safety.

Since there are no nozzles, the driver's

visibility is no longer obstructed by jets of

cleaning fluid sprayed across a large

surface of the windshield, and cleaning

quality is preserved at all vehicle and

wind speeds. AquaBlade® is frost-proof

and uses standard cleaning fluids.

DUAL DIRECT DRIVE SYSTEM

Dual Direct Drive motors enable a drastic reduction of the weight and

size of the wiping system, still improving safety.

The dual direct drive front wiper

system is a new, lighter and more

energy efficient system. Each arm is

powered by its own reversible motor,

operating in total synchronization with

the other, the mechanical linkage

being eliminated. With the new

generation of lightweight motors and

optimized efficiency, a mass reduction

of 30% (1.7kg) is achieved, reducing

Peopled® cost-effective alternative to halogen low beam.

To optimize costs without

compromising performance, Valeo's

approach is modular.

Whether equipped with lens or

reflector, monochip or multichip, the

four Peopled® modules produce a

luminous flux of 500 lm.

They consume less than 15W

(electronic driver included), with a

height as low as 40mm.

Systems based on these developments will be in production by 2012 on mid-range vehicles (C segment

vehicles).

Although they can also be associated with LED high beams, Peopled® modules are entry-level solutions

designed to be advantageously combined with halogen high beams.

BeamAtic® PremiumLED Glare Free High Beam.

BeamAtic® PremiumLED systems allow high-beam lamps to be used at all times, in all

circumstances.

The shape of the beam is adjusted to avoid blinding oncoming motorists, leaving the road

fully lit, apart from the portion occupied by the vehicles detected by the system.

LED REAR LIGHTING

LED Rear Lighting, LED for styling, safety and energy saving.

Because we often need to follow

a vehicle and are therefore in a

position to observe the quality of

its rear lamps, it is obvious that

the latter are an essential factor

in the perception of the vehicle.

They also help identify the model

and make. LEDs offer this design

flexibility which enables each

brand to create its signature look.

To do this, Valeo has developed a range of technical solutions such as MicroOptic™,

Leading-Edge-Design, See-Through and Graphic-Light, which designers can adapt, giving

free rein to their creativity. Another advantage offered by LEDs is that their instant activation

reduces by several hundred milliseconds their response time and therefore cuts the braking

distance of vehicles following behind by several meters, which could be crucial in case of

emergency braking. Lastly, the low electricity consumption of LEDs help reduce fuel

consumption and CO2 emissions.

BEAMATIC® XENON LIGHTING

BeamAtic Premium Xenon, Glare Free High Beam.

Xenon lighting offers undisputed

benefits in terms of safety. An

independent study carried out in

Germany showed that if all

vehicles were fitted with Xenon

headlamps, the number of night-

time accidents on country roads

would be reduced by 60%.

Nonetheless, even with Xenon

headlamps, visibility remains

limited due to the need to switch

to dipped beam when

approaching oncoming vehicles.

Valeo has therefore developed its BeamAtic Premium Xenon, which offers the comfort of driving in the

equivalent of high-beam mode in all situations without dazzling other drivers.

To achieve this, a camera located at the top of the windshield monitors the road and determines the exact

position of any vehicle approaching from ahead or being followed from behind.

The shape of the beam is adjusted dynamically according to this data so that the entire road is illuminated

except the areas where vehicles have been detected.

BILED™ PROJECTOR

Valeo has developed the modular BiLED™ Projector, which equips the

Ford Motor's Lincoln MKZ and brand new Mondeo.

Both low and high beams are produced by the bifunctional module: two multichip LEDs are used for low

beam, with power consumption as low as 26W when a third additional LED is activated for high beam.

The compactness of the module makes it suitable for bending light and, as the heat emitted by LEDs is

much lower than with conventional light sources, stylish plastic lenses are also possible.

The BiLED™ module will also be launched by several premium and mainstream European car makers in

the near future.
