ATLAS IntegrationMilestone 3 (May 19th-23rd):• New systems to join: RPC, HLT• Lar, PIX and IBL originally planned for M3 will

now join M4, as will SCT• Cosmic triggers: TRT FastOR, few RPC towers• Consolidate results of M2:

Muons, TRT, BCM (L1CALO back in M4)• Full chain Trigger+ HLT + Offline Storage• Shifts: TRT staying ON all week Monday

Morning till Friday afternoon 24h ShiftFurther Milestone Runs• 8th September & 13th OctoberATLAS Cosmic ray run• 24th November for ~2 weeks

SCT Actions in coming weeks

• Complete QA for sufficient LTx for one crate• Finalise mProcessor code for LTx• Replace bad ROD crate, week starting 09.06

– Crate 3 has power supply issues and bad backplane in slot 9– Full installation of LTx in that crate

• Get SR1 up and running– DCS and evaporative cooling– Complete migrations to SLC6

• Readiness for cooling and powering in July– DAQ & DCS– Cooling loop checks

• Exercise DAQ in P1– Preparations for M4

Shift Leader

• 3 detector desks (ID, CALO+FWD, MUONS) plus 3 central tasks (Run Control, Trigger, Central Data Quality) each of which is associated to a Taskforce with dedicated Run Coordinator(s).

• The Taskforce/System Run Coordinators are responsible of:– Shift coverage and booking, documentation and training– Operation model still aiming at maximizing common efforts in tools, procedures,

training and booking – Improved trainings (tutorial sessions + offline videos) with support for all central aspects– Improved OTP booking program (checking min/max shifts (~21) and time gaps).

• Intention to explore possibilities for further optimisation when operations stabilise later in Run-2, including dropping trigger desk with roles redistributed to Run Control and DQ desks.

Formally in place only for cosmic

ray runs and startup in 2015

We are responsible for our shifts until then

Shifts in 2014

• Cooling tests in July– IDGEN oncall– DCS watcher shift (shared with pix/IBL)

• Pixel will have calibration shifter

• M4 run (& other milestone/cosmic runs) – SCT RunCo– SCT DAQ/DCS/DQ oncall

• Routine cold operation from mid-August– ID shift (mainly DCS watch)– Run-Co– DAQ/DCS/DQ

People News• SCT IB Chairperson

– Richard Brenner took over from Joost Vossebeld from 1st April– Many thanks to Joost for the excellent job over the past 2 years

• SCT offline software coordinator– Pat will stand down from this role in August, replaced by Nick

Barlow• Many thanks to Pat for many years of service in this role. • Nick an excellent choice for replacement, with his technical skills and

wide knowledge of both offline and online

• Run Coordination– I have asked Per to resume run coordination role until mid-2015

• Per had only two months as RunCo during operations• Currently there is little operations experience at CERN• Hope to identify new candidates for RunCo, and appoint a deputy from

start of 2015– Call for nominations in last quarter of 2014

Summary

• Two months away from routine continuous cold operation

• Significant ramp up in activities to be ready for cooling and ATLAS running

• TRAINING– Current manpower at CERN not sufficient to

support operations. – To be discussed this evening in SCT IB

• SCT Dinner this evening– If interested meet in R1 at 19h30 (and let me

know beforehand)• SCT/PIXEL BBQ tomorrow evening– Please fill in doodle!
