WORLD WAR II
THE END OF WORLD WAR I• Germany lost WWI and because of that had to pay for what had happened and the
damage that was caused
• Germany had no say in the discussions
Treaty of Versailles (1920)• Germany was to accept responsibility for starting the war
• Pay for compensation of $33 Billion
• Lost territories
• Last oversea colonies
• German army was restricted to 100, 000 men
• No tanks, aircrafts, submarines, or heavy artillery were permitted
GERMANY’S PROBLEMS
• Germany fell on hard times because of the treaty
• On top of all of this there was also the strain of the Great Depression of the 1930’s
RISE OF HITLER • Out of these hard times came Hitler, who sought glory and power for his country
• Hitler created the Nazi Party and called for all German people to be united under one nation.
• Hitler came into power/control of Germany in 1933
PROPAGANDA• Hitler used propaganda to convince the German people that he could fix everything and
that only through war could Germany get back to its former glory
WAR BREAKS OUT 1939- 1945
OPEN WARFARE IN EUROPE
• Germany looked to gain groups and territory
1) Took Poland
2) Gained Norway
3) Invaded France
BOMBING
• Two Types of Bombing
1. Strategically (attacks on enemy factories and cities
2. Tactical (attacks on enemy navy or army)
• Britain did not want to bomb Germany because they did not want to provoke attack
• However, after some time many British officials believed that Bombing Germany would be the only way to end the war
• Britain began to attach Germany
THE BLITZ
• Hitler was so enraged about the bombing in Germany that he gave the order to begin raids in Britain
• The Raids began September 7 1940 and they lasted until May 1941
COPING THROUGH THE BLITZ
• Britain called Black outs (cut all electricity) in hopes of making it harder for targets
• Shelters were built as bunkers
EVACUATION• Moving all Britain Children from the cities into he county where there was less bombing
• September 1938
1. 800,000 school children
2. 520,00 children under 5
• Left by train
• Lived with host families
• Spent years away from families

• Through that the evil of and was inevitable and a danger to the world
• “Man is a fallen being, He is gripped by original sin”
