INTRODUCTIONFor your introduction to the project, PAUSE NOW from reading this, and carefully review the Cyber Security Careers Project Introduction PowerPoint.

Now that you know what your project entails, here are a few additional details for you to consider. You will complete this project as an individual or with a partner, following the Problem Solving Process. This process includes the following six steps:

The Driving Questions you will answer through the course of completing this project are:

Put another way, the Problems Introduced in this project are that you will need to:

CYBER SECURITY CAREERSPROJECT-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCE

STEP 1: Problem Definition: Define the Problem & Research the ProblemDirections: Using your Driving Questions (found in the introduction), clearly define the problem you must solve. Fill in each box in the chart below with a problem definition. Create a problem definition by taking each Driving Question and making it a statement.

Now that you have defined the problem, you will need to research each problem to find information for each of the following: 1. Identify five dangers of using the Internet. 2. Identify and create a list of five types of cyber security careers. 3. Identify and create a list of five companies that have cyber security jobs.The research grid below will help guide your research and note taking. You will need to use credible/reliable sources.Use the back of the paper or a separate paper if you need more space. In the column on the left, you will ask your research question. In the column on the right, you will record your research, providing the following three pieces of information. A. Direction Quotation: Copy and paste the quote directly from the source or type it. B. Paraphrase (in red): Rewrite the quote in your own words. C. Source: List the website name and URL or the citation for the source where you obtained your information.We’ve created an example of how to do your research. Follow this and fill out the Research Grid found on the next page. That grid will organize your research for your first research question related to the dangers of the Internet.

On a separate paper, create the same research grid that you just completed on the previous page to answer your two other research questions. Below are the questions that you should include in the left-hand column, you will write your direct quotations, paraphrase (in red) and sources in the right-hand column.

STEP 2: Solution Criteria: Decide What Criteria Your Solution Must Have Directions: In this step, you need to determine what criteria your solution needs to meet. In other words, what must be true about each solution no matter which one you choose? And why are these criteria important? So, to answer that question, think through what is most important to you when deciding on a career. You will need to pick at least one cyber security-related career you would want to do or be interested in doing. However, you need to first determine your standards or basic expectations (criteria) for a job in order to decide what you truly want. Some possible questions to answer would be:

} Do you want to pick a career that makes a lot of money, but is not as enjoyable? OR

} Do you want a job that makes less but is a job you really enjoy doing?

For example you could want a job that: 1. Pays good money- $50,000 a year or more 2. Helps stop cyber criminals 3. Allows you to work with gaming companiesThe list above provides examples of solution criteria. Whatever solution (job) you choose must meet these requirements (criteria). Fill out the Solution Criteria Sheet below by picking at least three solution criteria (You can add more if you would like). Give an explanation of 2-3 sentences explaining WHY each solution criteria is important to you.

STEP 3: Possible Solutions: Choose Possible Career Options Directions: Select possible career options by researching and completing the Career Exploration Grid below. 1. You need to answer, “What are your possible solutions for choosing a career?” 2. From your Research Grid, of the five careers you researched, pick the three you are most interested in. 3. Fill each career name/title in the “Possible Solutions” column. 4. In order to better understand each career, you will need to further explore it through research. STEP 4 | Part 1: Solution Choice: Investigate a Specific Career Directions: Complete the Career Comparison Chart below to compare your solutions using your criteria. 1. Write each of your researched careers in the “Possible Solutions” column. 2. Write each of your solution criteria along the top row of the chart (add more columns if you have more than three solution criteria). 3. Then look at each career and determine if it meets each of your criteria. Put a check in the box if it meets it. Leave it blank if it does not. 4. Then fill in what you found are advantages and disadvantages of doing this job. 5. Based on which solution meets your criteria best and offers the most advantages, decide on a solution choice.

STEP 4 | Optional: Solution Choice: “Making Real World Connections”Directions: In this step you will be guided in creating an email or phone interview request and then completing an interview with a professional that is currently working in the career you have selected and researched. 1. First, you need to have a complete list of interview questions. Fill in your questions from #8 of your Career Exploration Grid in Step 3 as questions 1, 2, and 3 (or substitute for more intriguing questions, now that you know more about the career) of your Interview Sheet below. When you’re ready to conduct the interview, you will write the interviewee’s responses below each question.

2. PAUSE NOW and carefully review the Contacting a Professional PowerPoint presentation so you know how to prepare a polished and succinct request for an interview, whether by email or by phone. 3. Create your own email or phone interview request and complete the interview with the help of the Workshop steps below. Make sure you get every answer on your Interview Sheet answered.

Workshop: Contacting a Professional Email Format 1. Open a new document in Word. 2. Follow this format for typing your professional email: A. Salutation • Start with a salutation. • To Whom It May Concern: (if you don’t know the person’s name) • Mr., Miss, Ms. or Mrs.: …… (if you do know his/her name) • Follow the title with a colon (:). B. Introduction • Introduce yourself and where you are from (your school, etc.). • Explain what project you are doing and why you are contacting the person. C. Body • Ask if he/she is willing or able to help you answer some questions. • Type a bulleted list of the interview questions. • Ask if he/she could please answer them by a certain date or in a phone interview. You need to determine what date you need the answers completed. • Ask if he/she could direct you to someone else who could help you if he/she cannot help you. D. Workshop: Contacting a Professional Phone Call Script

1. Open a new document in Word. 2. Follow this format for typing your script. A. Introduction • Introduce yourself and where you are calling from (your school, your class, etc.). • Explain what project you are doing and why you are contacting the person. B. Body • Ask if he/she is willing or able to help you answer some questions. • Type a bulleted list of the interview questions. • Ask if he/she could please answer them in an email by a certain date or in a phone interview. You need to determine what date you need the answers completed. • Also if ask if he/she could direct you to someone else who could help you if he/she cannot help you.

Note: Oftentimes you will not get a direct line to the person you are trying to reach. It is important to be clear about who you are trying to contact and why. It is also important to have your contact information on hand in case you have to leave a message.

Include the following: • School phone number and extension where you can be reached. • Class times when the person could call back and reach you. • School email address at which you can be reached. C. Closing • Finish your script with a closing statement thanking the person for his/her time. 3. Print a hard copy of your script. 4. Role play a few phone calls with a classmate. 5. Find a quiet place with no distractions so you can concentrate and hear all that is being said. 6. With your script in hand, make your phone call once you feel confident. 7. Have a pen or pencil ready to write down answers and information.

There are many options to choose from, for example, a PowerPoint, Prezi, or a website using webs.com or Wix. Ask your teacher for ideas, or if you have an idea ask to use it.
