KH International Projects b.v.
Founded in 1949 in the Netherlands, KH Engineering is an independently engineering company, and EPC contractor, providing engineering, procurement, and construction services to customers within a wide range of industries.
The oil & gas, petroleum industries contribute to the bulk of the company’s assignments. In addition, chemical plants, pharmaceuticals, food production, heavy industry, infrastructure and utility, and aerospace are important areas where the company realised and implemented many industrial and infrastructure projects.
KH Engineering established in 1949, under the name of Keynes, in the Rotterdam industrial port. Some years later, it merged with the Mathew Hall Group and Became the Mathew Hall Keynes Group (MHK). Eventually, the current name of Konings Haven (KH) Engineering was adopted in 1998. Presently, the company conducts 25% of its business internationally, with the Middle East and Europe holding the most new prospects.

EPCM
Description:
The project involved debottlenecking of the existing HYCO3 plant at the General
Electric site in Bergen op Zoom. The work was executed within severe timing
constraints due to an early, pre-planned shutdown and a shutdown period of only two
weeks. Furthermore no field welds were allowed.
Scope of Work:
KH-Engineering executed the engineering and
procurement of bulk materials, itemised
instrumentation and also provided engineering
assistance during construction. Furthermore
KH-Engineering performed the HAZOP and the
authority engineering (Stoomwezen). Due to the
above-mentioned project constraints, much effort
was spent on site surveys and crosschecks of the
as-built documentation.

Revamp of the recycle part in fertiliser plant, section 4, consists of:
• simplifying process routing between head of bucket elevators and moulding screws that also resulted in:
- reducing number of apparatus;
- less frequent occurring of interruptions (both technical and production technique);
- optimize process operation;
- higher on-stream time and higher production;
• improvement of working circumstances to present-day norms;
• optimisation of granulation process by measuring relevant process quantities;
• replacement of existing 4 undusting cyclones by one big cyclone;
• adjustment of existing elevator and moulding screw for the increase of capacity.
Revamp of ammonia logistic systems consists of:
• adjustment of ammonia intake systems:
- wagon (train) shipment;
- in-harbour shipment (river vessels);
- outer harbour shipment (sea-going vessels);
- freeze in installation;
- ammonia storage;
• modernisation of out of date systems according to the latest Nuisance Act requirements and CPR 13.

Basic engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, construction assistance, EPCm
Description:
Noryl is one of the raw materials for plastics produced by GEP in Bergen op Zoom. The
goal for this project was to debottleneck the existing Noryl plant in order to increase the
production capacity with 10%. Four main bottlenecks were identified and for this reason
the project was divided in four separate parts. The main part was to increase the
capacity of extruder lines 6&7 with 50%. This included a revamp of the existing
extruders itself and various modifications to the auxiliary equipment (larger product
bins, piping system, filters, etc.).
A critical success factor of this project was to realise a major part of the construction
activities within a shutdown period of two weeks.
The project was executed as a fast track project.
Scope of Work:
For this project the KH scope included Basic
Engineering, Detailed Engineering and
Procurement for and on behalf of GEP.
Furthermore KH provided the required engineering
assistance during the construction period.

Feasibility Study, Basic & Detail Engineering, Construction Assistance
Description:
Revamp of an existing Resins plant, comprising of product treatment and storage
facilities. The existing wet-product reactors were used for a smaller range of products,
resulting in a larger capacity for these products. The existing dry-product reactors
(previously moth-balled) were to be used for the remainder of the products. These
reactors and their treatment cycles were modified to handle a different product range.
Because of the increased total production capacity, additional storage capacity was
needed and created by re-alignment of existing storage tanks and the addition of new
storage tanks. As the existing plant was built in circa 1960, the entire facility was
reviewed, taking into consideration the revised authority requirements. This review
included a HAZOP and IPF classification for the dry-product train.
Scope of Work:
KH-Engineering assisted in all phases of the
project, including customer assistance in
producing the Basis of Design. In total circa
1400 m pipe was used in the modifications.

Description:
Odfjell Terminal Rotterdam (OTR) intends to extend its distillation capacity by installing a new multi-purpose distillation unit for petroleum products.The new unit should be capable of distilling various petroleum fractions into gas oil both as top and bottom product, naphtha and intermediate products. To allow for this operation the unit has to operate under vacuum conditions as well as with overpressure.
The new distillation unit required extension of several site utilities as cooling water, fire water, and power supply. Furthermore, the existing hot oil unit was revamped to increase capacity, meet new NOx requirements and be able to use off-gas from 4 distillation units to fuel the burners.
An IPPC study was performed to check if modifications were necessary to existing systems in accordance with Best Available Techniques.
The project concerned Basic Engineering for the new unit resulting in a 10% estimate.
Scope of work:
• Risk analysis;• IPPC sudy;• Aspen simulations (incl. sensitivity analysis);• Heat integration studies (HTRI);• Plot lay-out and piping studies;• Area classification;• Re-design cooling water intake station;• Revamp hot oil unit;• Project schedule;• 10% estimate.

Front-end engineering / 10% Estimate
Description:
The current tank farm situation at Petrom refinery- Petrobrazi is predominated by a low
grade of automation, a unit focused tank farm configuration (each unit has its own feed
and product tank, often pumping from one product tank to the next feed tank instead of
direct operation), an environmental situation which is worthy of improvements (in
particular to full fill future European standards) and reduce high operating cost (e.g.
operation, maintenance, utility consumption). Therefore Petrom/OMV is executing a
Tank Farm Optimization Petrom (TFOP) to implement an operational measures and an
investment roadmap of short/middle and long term improvements.
Scope of Work FEED:
Front End Engineering Design for the inside-
