LIVE DESIGN On the Spot Student Design Competition

The most fundamental ideas have the greatest impact. The goal is to articulate critiques of fundamental definitions of architecture using the design project as a medium for dis-course. Projects will be evaluated based on the integrity of their translation from inten-tions to resolutions.

The design problem shall be given at the competition launch on Friday afternoon, Febru-ary 15, 2019. Teams shall be given a total of 26 hours spread throughout the three-day festival to complete the design challenge on-site.

ELIGIBILITY

• The competition is open to any currently enrolled BS Architecture student in the Philippines.

• Each participating school is requested to endorse one official team with four (4) participants selected from any year level.

• The teams shall receive an official endorsement from their respective deans or design coordinators in order to qualify.

COMPETITION REQUIREMENTS

Please email the accomplished Official Participation Endorsement Form, Curriculum Vi-tae and Profile Photos of Team Members to [email protected] with the subject “LIVE-Submission-Student Design Competition 2019-[Name of School]” on or before January 11, 2019.

Both digital and manual presentation are allowed.

Teams who opt for digital presentations shall bring their own laptops with their preferred drafting and presentation software. Anthology Festival 2019 shall print the outputs.

Teams who opt for manual presentation must bring their own drafting and rendering ma-terials. Anthology festival shall provide the official A3 sheets (bond paper)

Bringing and use of illegal and dangerous materials are grounds for disqualification.

Please be at the venue by 1:30 PM on February 15, 2019 as the design problem will be announced at 1:45 PM of that day. Sheets should be submitted by 5:00 PM of Sunday, February 17, 2019 in time for the live judging and critique by the festival’s renowned guest architects from 4:00-6:00 PM of the same date. Awarding will follow along with the fes-tival closing ceremonies and gala night.

Sudarshan V. Khadka Jr. is the Principal of i.incite, architects. Formerly, he was an Asso-ciate at Leandro V. Locsin Partners (LVLP) where he was in-charge-of multiple projects. He is a member of the curatorial team of the Philippine Pavilion, “Muhon: Traces of an Adolescent City” at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale. He is driven by the critical search for a modern vernacular and the exploration of the tectonic potential of construc-tion. (www.metalocus.es)

Adrian Alfonso / Pearl RoblesPrincipal Partners8x8 Design Studio

8X8 is a label rooted from the infinity sign, in the context of an infinite amount of design possibilities multiplied by infinite amount of design conditions. Our process is to generate a multiplicity of design solutions. Our objective is to solve for a singular cohesive solution that would work most efficiently for the client’s requirements, site conditions, and aes-thetically appealing at par with contemporary standards.

8X8 is composed of Principal Partners Arch. Pearl Robles and Arch. Adrian Alfonso. Both having, intensive experience in Modern Architectural from their previous employers, they initiated 8X8 in 2009, and have since then completed quality residential and commercial projects. 8X8 looks forward in exploration of a wider range of Architectural opportunities, of various scales and various typologies of space.

Don LinoFounding PartnerLino Architecture

DON LINO is the founding partner of Lino Architecture. Don is a graduate scholar of Uni-versity of Santo Tomas. He is a licensed Philippine architect and a member of the United Architects of the Philippines. He also had schooling in London, U.K. and Abu dhabi U.A.E.

Prior to forming Lima Architecture in 2013 which evolved to LINO ARCHITECTURE in 2017, Don worked in the construction industry and after in 2006 moved to Dubai, U.A.E. were he worked as a design architect for a prominent international design film. He was in-volved in designing projects ranging from small scale residential to large scale mixed use projects. Getting top-notched mentoring, in 2010, Don moved to work for a German de-sign firm as a senior design leader were he was able to design, lead a team and be part of making major decisions on large projects. This vast experience of design and construc-tion internationally and locally paves way on Don’s critical thinking of design.

Prizes will be awarded at the Gala Night of Anthology Architecture and Design Festival on Sunday, the 17th of February 2019.

At least two team members must be present at the Gala Night to receive the cash prizes or these will otherwise be forfeited.
