Introduction
IASE (Irish Association of Supported Employment) is a national voluntary organisation established in 1994 with the aim of promoting and developing supported employment throughout Ireland. IASE Currently receives core funding from the Department of Community, Rural and Gaelatchta Affairs under the white paper for voluntary services.
This year’s conference will be an ideal opportunity for delegates to learn, be inspired and motivated. The conference format will encompass keynote presentations, workshops and a market place/exhibition area for delegates to obtain information regarding services, opportunities and funding relevant to the disability sector.The conference objectives are as follows:
• To promote the rights of people with disabilities to access employment and a career of their choice. • To provide opportunities for learning, discussion & set challenges. • To develop the professionalism of Supported Employment by considering best practice, training & development and staff career development. • To share knowledge, experiences and expertise in Supported Employment. • Development of leadership within the Supported Employment sector. • Promotion of Supported Employment for other socially disadvantaged groups.

James Mc Clean
James Mc Clean is employed as a Job Coach with Employment Response North West in Donegal. He is currently National Chairperson of People With Disabilities in Ireland (P.W.D.I.) and is its representative on the European Disability Forum. He is company secretary for the Donegal Centre for Independent Living, a member of the East Donegal Forum and a member of the North West branch of the Irish Association of Supported Employment.
Tony Donohoe
Tony Donohoe is head of social and education policy in the
Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC). Following a career in business journalism, Tony has worked with the Confederation for over 20 years in a number of roles including publications editor and head of research and information services. He took up his current position in 2006. IBEC is the national voice of Irish business and employers, and is the umbrella body for Ireland’s leading business sector groups and associations. It also provides a wide range of services to over 8,000 member businesses.
Feargal Quinn In 2006 Feargal Quinn agreed to be the Patron of IASE, best known for his excellent work developing the Super Quinn Group, he always honed in on two big things - food and customer service. The focus on customer service brought playhouses for customers’ children, feed-back groups and a host of other innovations for which in time Fergal Quinn became famous all over the retailing world. Superquinn was first in Europe to introduce a technology-based loyalty scheme, “super club” technology they sold to
David McWilliams
Economist, Journalist, Broadcaster and Best Selling Author
David McWilliams is one of Ireland’s most widely respected broadcasters and commentators, appearing on radio and TV as well as writing a weekly opinion column. His latest book the Generation Game is due to release in early September followed by a three part documentary series on RTE.David was nominated one of the Young Economic Global Leaders 2007. This honour is bestowed each year by the World Economic Forum to recognize and acknowledge the top 250 young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, their commitment to society and their potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.
David currently writes a column for the Sunday Business Post and author of the Best Selling book ‘The Popes Children’ – a unique and brilliant survey of Ireland today. He has a tremendous ability to chair or facilitate any event – using experience, humour and knowledge to keep any audience captured.

John Giles
John Giles is an ex professional footballer and a soccer pundit. John’s rise to soccer supremacy began at the very young age of 15 when he left his Ormond Square home and family to sign up with Manchester United, where he remained for 7 years. Following that, John signed up with Leeds United for 12 years and afterwards spent 2 years as Player/Manager with West Bromich Albion. During his football career John played at international level – an amazing 59 caps for Ireland. John’s career achievements are many with 2 FA Cup Winners, 2 League Championships, 2 UEFA Championships, and 1 League Cup Winners Medal. John was very much involved with IASE during the launch of the Job Shadow Initiative in April of this year and indeed is familiar with Job Shadowing through his football career and team mates. Support, coaching and mentoring come as second nature to John who realises their
age. From Henry Kissinger on America’s place in the world to Mikhail Gorbachev on love and loss, Rudi Guilianni on crime and to Hillary Clinton on the “great right wing conspiracy”.
John Lonergan
John Lonergan is a native of Bansha, Co. Tipperary. Joined the Irish Prison Service in 1968 and was appointed Governor of Mountjoy Prison in 1984. Also served as Governor of the top security prison in Portlaoise from November 1988 until May 1992. He is married with two grown up daughters.
His philosophy is that change, personal or otherwise, cannot be enforced on people, believing that real and meaningful change comes about through consent and agreement. He is convinced that the task for all of us is, first of all, to find the humanity in another human being and then to nurture it. The more a person becomes aware of their own humanity the more likely they are to treat others with respect. He argues that there is a direct link between crime and social and economic deprivation and believes that the task for all of us today is not the economy

Eoin Brawn
A native of Dublin, Eoin achieved great success in the recruitment industry in the 1990s. He developed new formulas and recruitment skills to become a “Big Biller” within the financial services markets in Dublin, London, Frankfurt and Bermuda. In 2001, he wrote 5 training courses based on his own experiences and today his training courses are recognised globally. During the last 6 years he has trained over 15,000 Recruitment Consultants in Ireland, UK, USA, South Africa and Australia. Eoin uses a very interactive style of delivery and is very successful at transferring his techniques and structures to an audience. He has completed over 12 years of research in the area of behavioural science / human communication and he provides the recruiter with an insight into controlling language and questioning techniques.
His Moodwatchers © course, which is aimed at helping people help themselves, has been delivered at numerous community venues throughout the north east and north west of Ireland. Staff working in the area of supported employment were first introduced to him at the 2006 national conference of the Irish Association of Supported Employment where he was a keynote speaker. He presented at the European Conference of European Union of Supported Employment in Belfast in June 2007. He wrote and delivered some of the mental health modules for Open Training College and the FETAC accredited mental health awareness course.Over recent months he has been working closely with the I.A.S.E. on various projects.
Rody Molloy
Director General FÁS Training and Employment Authority. Rody became Director General of FÁS – the National Training and Employment Authority following an open competition in October, 2000. He has a Masters Degree in Public Management from
companies in other countries. Fergal Quinn has also wrote a book about his business philosophy, “Crowning the Customer”, which has sold in several countries. In 1993 Fergal Quinn was elected to the Seanad as an independent member in the National University of Ireland constituency. Senator Quinn believes passionately in the Seanad’s role, and gives a lot of time to his duties there. He was re-elected in 1997, 2002 and 2007.
Shane Martin
Shane Martin is a psychologist with extensive experience of working with people with mental health and intellectual disabilities. Previously employed by National Learning Network (Part of Rehab Group) he now concentrates his efforts on the development and delivery of self-help psychology programmes for various client groups. He has been a guest speaker on depression and rehabilitation at universities in Northern Ireland and the Republic. He has made presentations on various mental health related topics at seminars in Europe.

Prior to his appointment to FÁS, Rody had been a career civil servant since 1973, serving in the Department of the Taoiseach, Department of Industry and Commerce, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Industry and Commerce and the Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment.
From November 1997, until his appointment to FÁS, Rody was Assistant Secretary General in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment with responsibility for Corporate Affairs and Economic Policy. During this time he led a Change Management Programme in the Department as part of the Government’s Strategic Management Initiative.
Rody is a member of the Board of FORFÁS - the National Policy and Advisory Board for Enterprise, Trade, Science, Technology & Innovation and Vice Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Public Administration.
Siobhan Barron
Siobhan is the Director of the
National Disability Authority having previously worked in the Disability Equality Unit of the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform where she worked on the development of the Disability Bill and the National Disability Strategy. She also represented the Department intergovernmental disability committees at international level including the Council of Europe and European Commission. Siobhan has worked in a wide range of policy areas within the Civil Service including childcare and social welfare.
Jim Gogarty
Jim Gogarty is a qualified Teacher and Social Worker with seventeen years experience in the field of Childcare, Health and Disability in Ireland and the UK. He has extensive experience of service delivery in residential and day settings and in delivering community based social work services to adults, children and families – with particular emphasis on disability and protection issues.
