HOW TO INTRODUCE IN A SAFE MANNER

• Introducing someone to firearms in a safe manner isn’t always as easy as it sounds

• It can be quite a stressful task

• Not everyone grows up with firearms and someone's knowledge may come entirely from Hollywood

• In order to keep gun culture alive and well it is important to teach people about firearms and to do so in

a correct fashion

BASIC SAFETY RULES

• There are four main rules to follow when practicing gun safety

• All guns are always loaded… (even if they aren’t actually loaded)

• This is the most important gun rule of all that sets the foundation of respect for firearms

• Always point the gun in a safe direction

• Keep your finger off the trigger until you are 100% ready to fire

• Be 100% sure of your target and what is behind it

HANDLING A FIREARM

• After the 4 basic rules have been covered, you should probably demonstrate how to effectively handle

the firearm

• There are a lot of common mistakes that new shooters and veterans alike tend to make when it comes

to handguns. We actually wrote an in depth article on it. Check out:

How to overcome common handgun hang-ups

HANDLING A FIREARM

• Your demonstration doesn’t need to be a field strip, just cover the main features of the gun

• Operating the safety

• Racking the slide

• Using the magazine release

• When you are showing a new person how to operate a firearm, Try and use snap-caps or do it with an

unloaded gun

• The following are all recommended:

• Long Pants

• Full-Sleeve Shirt

FIREARM CHOICES

• Safety is a big thing when showing someone the ropes of firearm handling, but so is the gun that you

set them up with

• Personally I believe starting with a .22 LR is optimal

• It’s low recoil, low cost, and high accuracy make it fun, cheap, and exciting for a new gun shooter

RUINING FIREARMS FOR OTHERS

• One of the worst things that someone can do is hand a large-bore firearm to someone who just started

shooting

• This is the ideal way to turn someone away from firearms for the rest of their lives

• Gradually upgrade from a smaller caliber until that new shooter is ready to take on the challenges of a

larger caliber

INTRODUCING FIREARMS TO NEW PEOPLE

• Introducing new people to firearms can be rewarding

• In order to be done properly the steps must have been followed to make sure that they were safe and

having fun
