We’re excited to announce Pathway to Admission—an expansion of our Starbucks College Achievement Plan (SCAP) benefit. Starbucks and Arizona State University (ASU) want to help partners earn their first bachelor’s degrees and now we’re creating another pathway to admission.

Previously, one in five partners who applied to ASU weren’t accepted because they didn’t meet ASU’s admission requirements. Now, eligible partners can take up to 10 courses (with full tuition coverage) to qualify for admission to ASU.

PlusPlus, ASU experts will coach partners on how to fill in any gaps in their academic histories to qualify for admission to ASU.

Pathway to Admission: Questions and Answers

Why is Starbucks partnering with Arizona State University?Arizona State University’s mission, brand and values align with the Starbucks culture. ASU is the only University that could stand side-by-side with Starbucks to offer a high-quality education at scale, to all of our eligible U.S. partners.

What do I need to do to be eligible for Pathway to Admission?Partners, including Teavana and Evolution Fresh, who do not have a college degree, who apply to ASU and did not receive admission are eligible. In addition, partners must be benefits-eligible at the time of the session start and must still be employed with Starbucks when the session ends. Partners who leave the company before a session ends can still complete coursework, but will not receive a code to redeem college credit at the end of the classes and could choose to pay for the class out of pocket if they want to receive credit for the course. For partners who are admissible to ASU right away, they can get started on their bachelor’s degree using the Starbucks College Achievement Plan.

Which classes do I take? How many? What GPA do I need to gain admission to ASU?The types of classes you will take are specific to you, based on your academic history and intended major at ASU. Most partners will take between 4-8 online courses before becoming eligible for admission to ASU.

You will have the opportunity to take the course again as many times as you need, until you receive the grade you need and are ready to convert the class for ASU credit.

What is it like to be a student in this program?Every partner’s education journey is unique, but most partners start with one class at a time and can expect to invest 18-24 hours per week on coursework in a seven-week session.
