*Howard Fitch was a member for only about three and a half years before his sudden and untimely death in September, 2012. Always friendly and joking, he is most remembered for “shepherding” the new members through to their Blue Badges. He coined the phrase “Living Obituaries” for these new member speeches.

The meeting was called to order by Presi-dent Eric Heitkamp. The Invocation was given by Paul Pirok. We are asked to keep Art

Bollon in our prayers as he is having double knee replacement and will be out for several weeks, as well as Clark Hodges after the passing of his father.

Gerry Montgomery led the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Margaret Collins and Charlotte Hudgin led the introduction of guests.Marketplace Advertiser for the week is DBG Advisors.

Daniel Drabinski was presented with his Blue Badge and welcom-ed into the club.

Janie Loveless reminded us all of the change of date for our meeting on Febru-ary 12 at 6:30 p.m.

Our speakers, Myra Kirkland and Patricia McArdle were introduced

ty. Myra is a staff attorney in the Dallas County Probate Court Investigator's Of-fice. We all learned a lot about this impor-tant issue.

gram run by Hands of Peace, which every year brings together Jewish-Israeli, Palesti-nian-Israeli, and Palestinian teens, along with local students from a variety of religious back-grounds, for 18 days of dialogue and team-building exercises. The 12-year-old organiza-tion, which began in Chicago, expanded its program to the San Diego area in 2014.

Professional facilitators lead the ses-sions, in which the teenagers learn about dif-ferent cultures and religions and are exposed to a range of perspectives on the Middle East conflict. The program's goal is to have the students use what they learn to engage in peace-building efforts in their everyday lives and in their communities.A Project in Jerusalem

At the "St. Vincent Home for Children with Special Needs" in Jerusalem 84 Christians, Jews and Muslims together take care of 65 mentally and physically handicapped children according to international standards of quality Their motto is: "We believe in the intrinsic val-ue of every person. People from most differ-ent groups - both cultural and religious - are working together for the poorest and for the helpless. " This intercultural interreligious community represents a sustainable model for achieving peace in a geopolitical region dominated by conflicts and hate.

A lawyer runs a stop sign and gets pulled over by a sheriff. He thinks he's smarter, being a big shot lawyer and has a better education than a country sheriff

The sheriff asks for license and registration. The lawyer asks, "Why?"The sheriff responds, "You didn't come to a complete stop at the stop sign."

The lawyer says, "I slowed down and no one was coming." "You still didn't come to a complete stop. License and

registration please," says the sheriff impatiently.The lawyer says, "If you can show me the legal

difference between slow down and stop, you can give me the ticket. If not, you let me go with no ticket."

The sheriff says, "That sounds fair, please exit your vehicle." The lawyer steps out and the sheriff takes out his nightstick and starts beating the lawyer with it. The sheriff asks, "Now tell me, do you want me to stop or just slow down?"

Students from Israel and Palestine sat together at a local art studio in Encinitas, CA, one day last summer, drawing portraits of one another and learning how to live in peace.Kelly Mellos, an organizer of the project from the Rotary Club of Encinitas Coastal, says
