Introduction

Next Glass was founded in 2012 on the premise of using science and software to ensure beer and

wine drinkers never taste another bad beverage.

The Company is cataloguing the taste profiles of tens of thousands of bottles of beer and wine by

chemically extracting the “DNA” of each to develop the world’s only Genome Cellar™.

These pure and objective taste profiles are combined with sophisticated machine-learning software

and user preference data to create an incredibly accurate recommendation and discovery engine,

similar to those of revolutionary companies like Pandora, Netflix, and Amazon.

Next Glass partnered with the David H. Murdock Research Institute to conduct

preliminary tests to validate the concept.

Using data produced from DHMRI’s initial tests, Next Glass was able to determine

which instruments generated data useful in making recommendations to users.

How does the Science work?

Page 5: Intro presentation

Together, these instruments produce tens of

thousands of unique chemical biomarkers

which Next Glass’ machine-learning algorithms

use to produce accurate beer and wine

recommendations for users.

Next Glass’ laboratory and beer and wine

storage facility are located in the new

MARBIONC building at the UNC-Wilmington

CREST Research Facility.

As with Next Glass’ science, in order to validate the

accuracy, repeatability, and overall effectiveness of its

software, the Company retained and collaborated with

Sean Owen, a world renowned expert in machine-learning.

Sean has worked as a senior engineer at Google, has

written books on machine-learning, and was the Lead

Committer of the Apache Mahout project.

Next Glass also won entry into the selective Kaggle Startup

Program, which will allow some of the world’s best data

scientists to collaborate with the Company as it continues

to refine its existing algorithm.

Consumers

Once users have input beer and/or wine ratings, they can then access the powerful features of the Next Glass platform.

Initially, users will enjoy four key pieces of functionality/types of search.

Discover Glass Match Reverse Search Search with FriendsGet recommendations based on

one bottle. Users can scan a label

or search manually.

Users can choose their next glass

of beer or wine based on ratings in

their “Your Cellar” library.

Only have a few beers or wines to

choose from? Reverse Search will

tell users which they’ll enjoy most.

Allows users to combine profiles with

other Next Glass members to

discover drinks both will love!

How does Next Glass monetize its offering?

Next Glass will monetize its operations through user-prompted advertisements (similar to Google AdWords) by grocers, brick & mortar stores, online merchants, and breweries / wineries.

Advertising throughout the platform will consist of highly-targeted, clickable display ads that match specific criteria (see figure on right).

There are also opportunities for businesses to directly message users that are certain to enjoy their beers and wines.
