ItINERARy... Day 1 Casablanca Discover the Art Deco

influences of this metropolis. Head out on personal explorations

through Casablanca’s heart and admire some of its architectural

gems, including the beautiful Hassan II Mosque and the imposing

Cathédrale du Sacré Coeur. Day 2 Rabat/Meknes Stroll through

Rabat’s serene kasbah before journeying to Meknes, the former

capital of Morocco and the site of Sultan Moulay Ismail’s palace.

Days 3-4 Volubilis/Fes Travel back to the days of the Roman

Empire on a guided tour of the ruins of Volubilis. In medieval Fes,

wander the narrow alleyways of the medina as the call to prayer

floats over Fes el-Bali at dusk. Day 5 Midelt Journey through the

cedar forests of the Middle Atlas Mountains to the peaceful, rural

village of Midelt. Stop by a handicraft workshop run by Franciscan

nuns - a great place to pick up a beautifully crafted souvenir. Day 6

Sahara Camp After a camel ride into the desert, attempt a climb

of the towering dunes. Later, fall asleep in a desert camp under a

blanket of stars. Days 7-8 todra Gorge Wake early and watch a

golden sunrise over the desert before heading to the impressive

palmeries of Todra Gorge. Feel like burning some energy? Why

distinct architecture and European flavour of this famed city. For

those who arrive early, head to Hassan II Mosque - one of the

largest mosques in the world - or take it easy with a glass of sweet

mint tea in one of the many great cafes. Day 2 Rabat/Moulay

Idriss See monuments spanning the history of Morocco, including

the delightful Kasbah des Oudaias, on a walk through Rabat’s old

quarter. Spend the night in the sacred hilltop town of Moulay

Idriss. Once forbidden to non-Muslims, the picturesque medina

offers an excellent insight into traditional Moroccan life. Days 3-4

Volubilis/Fes Discover the remarkable mosaics of Volubilis then

see the imposing gates and walls of Meknes. Take a step back

to the Middle Ages in Fes, considered the cultural and religious

centre of Morocco. For an evocative walk, head to the atmospheric

medina to wander through the maze-like alleyways. Days 5-7

Chefchaouen/tangier Nestled between two peaks in the Rif

Mountains, charming Chefchaouen is the perfect place to relax.

Spend time here admiring the blue-washed houses, shopping

for unique handicrafts in the medina or simply sitting in a cafe,

watching the world go by. Travel to the coastal town of Tangier and

perhaps indulge in fresh seafood before making the final journey

to Marrakech aboard an overnight train. Days 8-9 Marrakech Get

travel by train to Meknes, the ambitious building project of Sultan

Moulay Ismail. Severely damaged by an earthquake, the remnants

of the royal compound give an insight into the wild ways of this

ruler. Days 3-4 Volubilis/Chefchaouen Tread in the footsteps

of the Romans at the ancient hilltop city of Volubilis then travel

to blue-hued Chefchaouen, cradled gently in a fold of the Rif

Mountains. Days 5-7 Fes Explore a labyrinth of alleyways and feast

for Barbary apes on the journey between the Middle and High Atlas

By night, be caught up in the rhythm of the music, emotion of the

dancers and skill of the jugglers - a perfect introduction to Morocco.

Day 2 Marrakech Start the day with a short Arabic lesson before

visiting a market to buy fresh produce to be used in a cooking

class. Discover the various spices and ingredients used in Moroccan

cooking, learn to prepare tasty specialities and enjoy a hearty lunch.

Day 3 Depart Marrakech Explore more of the medina and its

most impressive sites. Visit the palaces and tombs, as well as the

ItINERARy... Days 1-2 Cairo Colourful Cairo overflows with

character and there is plenty of time to soak up the vibrant

atmosphere. Visit the majestic Sphinx and a surviving Wonder of

the Ancient World, the Pyramids of Giza. Wander the halls of the

Egyptian Museum, taking in the thousands of ancient treasures on

display. The masses of gleaming artefacts recovered from the tomb

of Tutankhamun are an impressive sight to behold - from gold

jewellery to gloves - this pharaoh was certainly prepared for the

afterlife! Days 3-4 Alexandria The second largest city in Egypt,

Alexandria has grown up around its port. Head underground and

delve into the mysteries of the Kom ash-Shuqqafa catacombs.

This Roman burial site is the largest of its kind in Egypt and was

discovered, quite accidentally, by a hapless donkey. The modern

Bibliotheca Alexandrina, built to hold eight million books, is a library

like no other and an inspirational place to visit. Return to Cairo for

an overnight train journey. Day 5 Aswan/Abu Simbel Watch an

amber sunset over the Nile from a gliding felucca. Use free time

to learn about Nubian culture at the excellent museum or wander

Abu Simbel temples, the ancient entrance to Egypt. Days 6-8 Nile

Cruise Embark on a cruise down the mighty Nile River, stopping

ItINERARy... Day 1 Bamako Start the journey in the capital of

Mali. Home to many fine musicians, Bamako is considered one

of the best live music scenes in West Africa. Day 2 Segou Glide

down the Niger River in a canoe to explore villages that produce

traditional mud cloth. Day 3 Bandiagara Browse shops and

markets selling Dogon artefacts, masks and crafts in this small

town. Days 4-6 Dogon Village trek Embark on a hike into the

hinterland of the reclusive Dogon people. Visit traditional, small

villages along the way to learn about the unique culture and

customs that these proud and isolated people have protected

for centuries. Day 7 Niger River Head out on an overnight boat

expedition down the Niger River, which is still used as a trade

route by locals. Days 8-9 Djenne Wander the streets of this

historic trading town to admire the red, mud-brick buildings and

imposing mosque. Days 10-11 teriya Bugu Travel to Teriya

Bugu for two nights of camping on the grounds of a progressive

rural development project. Amid thousands of eucalyptus trees and

a peaceful river, this small village thrives on the solidarity tourism

that this project creates. At night, be treated to a stirring traditional

dance performance. Day 12 Segou Drive to Segou to explore this

town once more. Days 13-14 Bamako Return to Bamako to take

in a energetic drumming performance and enjoy a final dinner with

newfound friends. The music and magic of Mali is truly captivating

so why not stay longer to explore Bamako a little further and be

immersed in this rich and vibrant culture?

ItINERARy... Days 1-11 Senegal With its seaside location, Dakar

is the perfect place to start the adventure. Join local fisherman to

explore mangroves by canoe in Palmarin, then venture out on

game drives through forested national parks. Days 12-22 Mali

Enjoy live music in Mali’s capital, then embark on an overnight boat

trip down the Niger River. Get to know the isolated Dogon people

on a trek through their remote villages and discover the intricate

mask culture, customs and religious beliefs unique to this region.

Days 23-27 Burkina Faso Browse handmade masks and stop

by a sacred fishpond, then dance the night away to the hypnotic

sounds of local musicians in Ouagadougou. Days 28-40 Ghana

Head out on a walking safari through Mole National Park, browse

the lively markets of Kumasi, visit picturesque Lake Bosumtwi,

help out at a rural education project and chill out on the beautiful

Ghanian Coast. Days 41-44 togo Take a butterfly safari through

the jungle then cross Lake Togo to investigate voodoo culture.

Days 45-50 Benin Lounge beachside in Grand Popo, then visit

a palace filled with golden treasures. Days 51-59 Nigeria Travel

through the green heart of Nigeria to enjoy cooler climes on the

scenic Jos Plateau. Soak in hot springs beneath sandstone cliffs,

then visit chimps and endangered drill monkeys at a sanctuary.

Days 60-69 CameroonTravel along rugged roads winding

through rainforests and mountains. Relax on Limbe’s black volcanic

sands then kick back under a palm tree on Kribi Beach. End this epic
