CSS volunteer Jonathan recently went to Somalia to help deliverrelief for the drought in the Horn of Africa. Together with ourpartner Global Medic and the UNICEF, CSS members loaded anddelivered 2,880,000 Aquatab water purification tablets to be shippedto Kenya for distribution between Kenya and Somalia. This shipmentwill purify 28,800,000 litres of water so that beneficiaries can haveaccess to safe and potable drinking water. This program is being runby Scott Do in partnership with the GlobalMedic, ADRA Kenya andADRA Somalia and the UNICEF.

The worst drought seen in Eastern Africa in over half a century iscurrently affecting Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Uganda.More than 11 million people in the eastern Horn of Africa currentlyrequire emergency assistance due to prolonged drought conditions,according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of HumanitarianAffairs (OCHA). Successive seasons of failed rains, combined withincreasing food and fuel prices, conflict, and limited humanitarianaccess have resulted in food insecurity, water shortages, and acutemalnutrition rates above emergency thresholds.

An estimated 2.8 million people in Somalia, 3.5 million people in

Kenya, and 3.2 million people in Ethiopia have been facing severefood shortages. GlobalMedic is working with international partners toprovide access to clean drinking water and food for those who havebeen affected in Somalia and Kenya.
