In the handover, only resources on the Uu interface are updated. The eNodeBs use internal messages to apply for and release resources of the source cell and the target cell. Inter-eNodeB data transfer is unnecessary, so are the random access procedure of the UE and the signaling interaction with the evolved packet core (EPC).1
