ANNOUNCEMENTS Families with Young Children: During the summer (May 26 - Sept. 1), children are welcome to go to the nursery right after the Children’s Sermon. Parent/guardian(s) are also welcome to sit in the library during the service. Of course, families with young children are welcome to stay in the sanctuary throughout the service. There is a saying: “If there is no crying, the church is dying.” We welcome the cries of young children.

JOYS & CONCERNS

If you have any joys or concerns, please share with the congregation by informing the office staff or pastor.

Please pray for Rev. Dr. Seth Agidi, Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana, who is confined to his home because of serious back condition.

Let us lift up the family of Wilson “Willie” Kudzo Akorita (the drummer who visited from Ghana), who died in May 2019.

From Homestead Presbytery: “Prayers are requested for the well being and prosperity of the Auburn congregation. May they continue to grow as a caring and nurturing Christian community, as well as individuals, focusing on prayer, Bible study and worship.” Please pray for Staci Rosche, a friend of Sharon Kuncl, who has mudulary thyroid cancer. We rejoice in the marriage of Amanda Volkmer and Ron Zaim, who were married Saturday, August 24th at Federated Church!

New book for the Christian Book Discussion Group

The book, “The Triumph of Christianity, how a forbidden religion swept the world” by Bart Ehrman, will be the next book to be reviewed at the Tuesday morning Christian Book Discussion. Mark your calendars to meet with us at 7:00 AM on Tuesday, September 3rd in the Fellowship Hall. In preparation, read the introduction and first chapter of the book.

NEEDED: Story Tellers for Children's Sermon The Christian Education Committee is asking for volunteers for the Children's Sermons to help Pastor Edward with the church service when he is preaching on Sundays. The Sign-up sheet is in the Narthex!

GREETERS WANTED! Please sign-up on the sheet in the Narthex provided by the Membership & Growth Committee! Thank you!

The Chancel Choir is getting ready to resume. Please consider joining the choir. They meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 and provide special music for Sunday morning services. The first rehearsal is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4. Come and see what it is all about. The only requirement is a sincere desire to share God’s word in song.

An update: Thank you to Federated members and friends for your memorial donations following Norry Augustin’s death. Your generosity has provided the monies to repair and improve our church bell system whose sounds will one again enrich the downtown area. This project became a heartwarming reality through Marv Zoucha’s ongoing passion, vision, and assistance with the contractor. So now to each of you, my family is very grateful as we sense Norry’s smiles and appreciation of music in “making a joyful noise to the Lord”. - Lee A.

The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper Invitation to the Lord’s Table

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Words of Institution Communion of God’s People Congregants are served communion in the pews. Please hold the bread and cup to partake together. Federated celebrates an open table, meaning all who trust in Christ are welcome to receive communion. Grape juice (and fructose-free alternative) is served, though the service sometimes refers to “wine.” Gluten-free wafers are at the center of bread trays. Children are welcome to receive communion with the permission of parents/guardians as part of the family’s on-going conversations about faith. After partaking, please place cups in pew holders.

Prayer After Communion We thank you, O God, that through Word and Sacrament you have given us your Son, who is the

true bread from heaven and food of eternal life. So strengthen us in your service that our daily living may show our thanks, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

2019 SMALL GROUPS (Updated 8/29/19) We want groups to remain small, to build communities within the congregation of people with similar interests. The frequency of gatherings can vary depending on need. Anywhere from weekly to quarterly or seasonal. In general, if groups (other than family groups) reach 16 members, they should split into 2 groups of 8 so they remain small. We will not begin any groups without enough participants to make them successful and we’ll need a coordinator(s) for each group, so decide where you can help.

Federated Family Fellowship Federated Family Fellowship is a small group for families with children living at home of any age. This group will meet once a month starting in September with the first activity being a hay rack ride.
