INTI RAYMI—FESTIVAL OF THE SUN Wednesday, June 24–Sunday, June 28
Inti Raymi, or Sun Celebration, is an annual festival held on June 24 in Peru. The festival started as a religious ceremony of the Inca Empire in honor of the god Inti, one of the most venerated deities in Inca religion. Come see our newest exhibition, Inca: Conquests of the Andes, and join us for a variety of programs that celebrate the sun and Inca culture.

Thursday, June 25 (continued) JAZZ IN THE ATRIUM 6:00–8:00 p.m., Atrium
Enjoy the rhythm of Latin jazz music performed by
flautist and saxophonist Javier Gutierrez. Along with
his band, Mosaic, he has been entertaining the Dallas–
Fort Worth area for over fifteen years, performing
Latin jazz standards with an infusion of Afro-Cuban and
Brazilian rhythms and styles.

free Spotlight Tour of the DMA’s collection.
PERUVIAN WEAVING (1980) 3:00 p.m., C3 Theater
Watch a documentary examining the ancient Andean
Indian tradition of warp pattern weaving handed down
from woman to woman for some five thousand years.
Featuring a detailed demonstration of the technique
on backstrap and four-stake looms by Indian weavers,
and an interview with Dr. Junius Bird of the American
Museum of Natural History, the film explores this
significant tradition in the Inca culture. This film is not
rated. (25 min.)
