Een Inti-trui is geen trui. Het is de optel-som van materiaal plus handenarbeid, de vermenigvuldiging van vrijheid maal verbondenheid. Het eindresultaat vormt zich naar de identiteit van de eigenaar. Die er zich thuis in voelt, één mee voelt, eigen door voelt.

An Inti pullover is not just a sweater. It is the sum total of materials, manual labour and the triumph of freedom multiplied by alliance. The end result moulds itself to its owner’s identity. You feel comfortable with and in it, entirely unique.


She is a pig breeder and mother. More than a housewife: the heart of the household and head of the family. Catholic and superstitious. Modest though she is, she radiates mother nature’s primal strength as serenely as an angel. She laughs a lot and is always surrounded by children. Not so much a thinker as a doer. Rooted in the fertile soil whose fruits she picks and prepares with gratitude. Equally at home slaughtering a chicken or creating a healing herbal mixture. The knitter at home far off in the high mountains. Where together with her mother, daughter and friends she pours her whole heart and soul into creating Inti clothing.

Ze is varkenshoeder, moeder, de huisvrouw maar vooral de ziel van het huis, het hoofd van de familie. Katholiek en bijgelovig. Bescheiden als ze is, straalt ze sereen als een engel de oerkracht van moeder natuur uit. Zij lacht veel, is altijd omgeven door kinderen. Denkt niet zoveel na, doet vooral. Geaard in de vruchtbare grond, waarvan ze dank-baar de vruchten plukt en bereidt. Ze slacht met even veel gemak een kip als dat ze uiterst verfijnd een genees krachtig kruidenmengsel brouwt. De breister, ver weg, thuis in het hooggebergte. Waar ze samen met haar moeder, dochter en vriendinnen het hele jaar door haar bijzondere hart en ziel steekt in de vervaardiging van de Inti-kleding.

High mountains veiled in mist, snow-covered tops, ridges overgrown with cacti, fast-flowing brooks, magnificent views, a quiet town in a valley of the Andes. This country is so different, these people are so different. They live and work in the highland. Much closer to the sky than we are. In colourful surroundings. The ponchos they wear show that who lives amongst colour is colourful.

Hooggebergte in nevels gehuld, besneeuwde toppen, met cactus begroeide bergflanken, snel stromende beken, prachtige vergezichten, een stille stad in een dal in de Andes. Zo anders is het land, zo anders zijn de mensen. In het hoogland wonen en werken zij. Veel dichter bij de hemel dan wij. In een omgeving vol kleuren. De Poncho’s die zij zelf dragen, laten zien dat wie in kleur leeft van kleur getuigt.

Een kleurrijke basis


Er groeit een bijzondere boomsoort in de regenwoud-en van Ecuador, Columbia en Panama. Deze Tagua-palm draagt vruchten, Taguanoten genaamd, wel vijftien tot twintig kilo noten per jaar. Eenmaal geplukt en uitgedroogd, is de noot keihard, als ivoor.

Van dit nootivoor maakte de lokale bevolking kledingknopen. Totdat kunst-stof zijn intrede deed. Inmiddels is er weer vraag naar Taguaknopen die kleding sieren, naar Taguasieraden die mensen sieren. En dat is meteen goed voor het milieu. Want nu de Taguapalm weer een inkomstenbron is, wordt het kappen van regenwouden minder noodzakelijk.

An exceptional tree grows in the rain forests of Ecuador, Columbia and Panama. The Tagua palm bears fruit called Tagua nuts, some fifteen to twenty kilos a year. Once picked and dried, the nuts are rock-hard, like ivory. With ivory’s radiant inner yellow-white hue. The locals produced buttons from this nut ivory before plastic made its appearance. But now Tagua buttons are again in demand to embellish clothing, and Tagua jewellery adorns the human form. And that’s also good for the environment, because now that the Tagua palm has again become a source of income, there’s less pressure to destroy the rainforest.

Sustainability is not a hype. In fashion it is a continuously growing consumer demand. In response, more and more brands want to adopt sustainable production. Made-by is a label for fashion brands that work on sustainability. With these brands Made-by draws up a plan for the future. First one step, then the next - because fair and honest production takes time. Brands that affiliate themselves with Made-by receive more than just advice. Made-by offers local assistance in implementing the improvements in the supply chains as well. In addition, taking part in Made-by means access to an existing network of sustainable suppliers and an independent way of showing the consumer that you are doing good work.

Made-by zet zich in voor mode die gemaakt is met respect voor mens en milieu: met gebruik van

milieuvriendelijkematerialen en in naaiateliers waar de omstandigheden voor de mensen die er

werkengoed zijn. Hiervoor werkt Made-by samen met kledingmerken en winkel-ketens aan het

verbeteren van zowel de sociale als de milieuomstandigheden in de hele productieketen. Merken die

lid zijn van Made-by kunnen het Made-by label gebruiken om te laten zien dat ze stap voor stap de

productie van hun collecties duurzamer maken. Om de status en vooruitgang te laten zien publiceert

Made-by jaarlijks voor elk van deze merken een aantal scorekaarten waaruit consumenten kunnen

aflezen hoe goed het merk bezig is op het gebied van duurzame productie.

The People behind this handmade knitwear label are Anita Cales and Léon van den Broek. They managed to merge two cul-tures into a unique and timeless collection of handmade clothes. A result of a journey which is about meeting others as well as meeting oneself.

Achter dit handmade knitwear label staan Anita Cales en Léon van den Broek. Zij zijn erin geslaagd het beste van twee culturen samen te smelten tot een unieke en tijdloze collectie van met de hand gemaak-te kledingstukken. Een uitvloeisel van een reis die een ontmoeting is met de ander en die ook altijd een beetje jezelf ontmoeten is.

In mountain villages spread across the coun-try local craftspeople work on the clothes. Trained in traditional methods, they embroi-der, weave and knit. Every two weeks they go to one of the three small companies where the head knitter inspects their work. From there they take along new wool which is coloured according to age-old techniques. Every item proudly sports the name of its producer. Craft, personal touch and western design effortlessly merge into a authentic product.

In bergdorpen verspreid over het land werken lokale vakmensen aan kledingstukken Am-bachtelijk gevormd, borduren, weven en breien zij. Elke twee weken gaan ze naar één van de drie bedrijfjes waar de controle plaatsvindt uitgevoerd door de hoofdbreister. Van daaruit nemen ze nieuwe wol mee, die in de klein-schalig opgezette fabriek is gekleurd volgens eeuwenoude procédés. Op elk kledingstuk prijkt trots de naam van de maakster. Ambacht, personal touch en westers design vloeien moeiteloos samen tot een authentiek product.

Their own label. With their own designs, their own factory, their own distribution net-work, their own dyers, packers, seamstress-es and knitters. Unique. In fit, in colour, in material and comfort. And against the grain. Where others spread more diversely, Inti focuses. Where companies are downsizing, Inti unites. Where the world becomes more fragmented, Inti brings people together. It is this going against the grain which typifies the clothing and the people behind it. The company builds on this individuality. With an increasingly extensive range of products all embodying this energy.

Een eigen Label. Met eigen ontwerpen, een eigen fabriek, eigen distributienetwerk, eigen ververs, inpakkers, naaisters en breisters. Eigen. In pasvorm, in kleur, in materiaal, in draagcomfort. Tegendraads ook. In tijden van verbreding, verdiept Inti. Daar waar ondernemingen afslanken, brengt Inti samen. De wereld individua- liseert, Inti verbroedert. Het is de kracht van deze tegendraadse eigenheid die de kleding en de mensen erachter zo karakteriseert. Op die eigenheid bouwt het bedrijf voort.
