y Process of expatriation is a follows:

y 1st phase is the time of surprise where everything seems great and new (1to 2 months)

y 2nd phase is what you call Cultural shock where all the difficulties and

differences with the other culture appears suddenly to you: why it take solong time, what are you doing, why they are doing that, it s so stupid, «(2 to 6 months depending on your preparation)

y 3rd phase is the time of acceptance and beginning of adaptation to the newculture: ok I have to stay here for a long time, so I need to adapt (2 to 4

months)y 4th phase is the time of adaptation where you understand the culture and

truly appreciate this new culture (rest of time)

First question continueyAs you see, culture shock is only one step of the adaptation process in expatriation. Toreduce this cultural shock, you need to be prepared.

y ou need to know exactly where you are going, how is environment, how are relationbetween people, how is life, how is the city, « with a maximum of precision so thatyou are not surprised when you arrive. If when you think India you think Bengal Tiger,

Taj Mahal and Snake dance, you·ll have a very big cultural shock when you·ll arrive.y To success on 3rd you need to make big efforts to understand the culture: this can be

done by understanding the religion, the language, the political environment, ...

y One important thing to succeed this phase is to be, work, live and meet with localpeople, not foreign who most of the time stay together.

y Usually the best way to meet local is at university or with language exchange lessons.

y ou need also to find equivalent activities that you were doing in your home country.Ex: I was doing basketball and tennis in France, so I have tried to do some sports here.

Same if you are painting, cooking, «

Last but not least question. In international organization Y ou need to sepak in

english. India sa a huge country and hight level of poorness seems to be f or

away of modern way of living. What about english languge?have Y ou ever have

g ot counterf actuals problems with Indian citizens (businesspeople)

y All business people that I meet are high educated people sothey speak English. Only people like taxi driver or maiddon·t speak English, but can understand a little, so it·s not a

main problem here. In Thailand it will be.

y Business men are Indirect, they will barely say straight awaywhat they want, what is wrong, « indirect and very politeway of communication is required here.

Last question Which i really corious is connected with India communication. As businessman are more direct or indirect in India. How you manage with this and which way of communication(direct or indirect) is more torelable. Are ou able to see non-verbal aspectsof Indians' people life??
