INTERNSHIP LOGSHEETS

INTRODUCTION

A3 project is a multi-disciplinary architectural practice focusing on creating places for people.

Passionate with what they do. From their design approach to the way they manage their

company. Honesty and integrity in the workplace is the key of their motivation in dealing everyday

task and challenges.

PARCEL H – GOURMET GARDEN FOODCOURT

Gourmet Garden foodcourt is part of the development from the Bandar Seri Botani which located

at the Jalan Gopeng. The whole project of Bandar Seri Botani are included shopping mall, sport

centre, retails, and foodcourt. I was assigned for the foodcourt design. This is an on-going project

before I came. So, before I start with mine very first project design I have to understand the

working process of the company before I started my work. During the first week, I was assigned

for the floor plan editing. Before I start, I have to study and understand the design requirement

for the foodcourt. For example, sitting arrangement, toilet arrangement, kitchen spatial

arrangement, human circulation and etc. Every designs which applied must follow the Building-

By Law and Matrix Handbook which helped us on solving the practical issues. On Week 2, I was

assigned to update the 3D model which follow up with latest floor plan. Based on the 3D to design

the elevation and do some minor changes based on the proportion, scale, and spatial feeling.

On Week 3, I started to update all the elevations and sections drawings based on the latest 3D

model. From this stage, I learnt to design not only based on the aestheticness of the building and

also design a building with a correct scale and dimension of every spaces to solve the practical

issues that the user may faced.

WISMA TAIKO

On Week 4, I was assigned to another supervisor which handling a tender project called Wisma

Taiko. This a refurbishment project which located at Ipoh also. Basically, my job is to tidy and

finish up the 3D Model and create rendering images. So, after transferring the 3d model from

Sketch up to 3dsmax. I have to start researching and looking for suitable furniture to fit in the

spaces. Design review is needed every few hours to prevent misunderstanding and direct us to

the correct direction. After finished up interior’s furniture part, I started putting all the materials

for the interior furnishings. After completed the 3D model, test render is started to check with the

qualities and spatial feeling. Minor changes is needed after every design review to make sure

satisfaction. After finished up rendering, rendering images were transferring to the Photoshop for

post render editing. Besides, I also help on arranging the presentation slides for the tender

presentation. After completed this tender project, it helped me to brush up my rendering skill

which allow me to get prepare before the next semester started.

CHAI’S & NAI’S RESIDENCE

On Week 5, after completed the Wisma Taiko tender. I was assigned to handle a bungalow

project call Chai’s & Nai’s Residence. The bungalow is separated into two units but linked which

belong to different owners. Basically my job is to assist my supervisor to build the 3D model while

she updating the plan layout and visualize the bungalow exterior and interior for design review.

Common language is needed to communicate through the building to make the two different

units are look as a whole, which didn’t overwhelm one and another. Due to the request from the

client, levelling are one of the architectural language which implant to the bungalow design. So,

3D model is important to visualize the proportion and scale of the building. From Week 5 until

Week 7, I was working on the 3D modelling which trying to harmonize the exterior view and also

the spatial arrangement based on latest plan layout and supervisor’s opinion. From this project,

it actually help me a lot on the design thinking process. Building are built with reasons, and that

is the reason why we have to using a common language to design the building which create

meaning to the building itself and make it turn alive.

PARCEL H – GOURMET GARDEN FOODCOURT

On Week 7 and Week 8, I was assigned to continue this foodcourt project again from another

colleague. After CCM meeting, the foodcourt design did changed a lot. I have to follow the

requests which concluded from the meeting and update the 3D model and also the floor plan.

From the 3D, we start adding in the actual roof trusses in to the foodcourt and also the steel

structure from the engineer. After adding the structures, we have to adjust the foodcourt design

to make it become more proportionate. Besides, for the drawings, we also have to put in the

sanitary line to the drawing and all the proper symbol and diagram for the BP submission. From

this project, I have learnt what is the submission drawing standard and how to produce a

submission level standard drawings.

CONCLUSION

To sum up this two months of internship training, this is a really good experience for me to

expose to the real-world actual construction experience. This two months internship not only

improve my hard skill (autocad,sketchup,photoshop,3dsMax) and also soft skill like understand

the importance and the responsibility of being an architect who need to overcome and

encounter various problems and challenges. In the nutshell, this is my honour that can be a

part of A3 Project, gaining knowledge and awesome experience with the best teams.
