    For the past 20 years, The Watermill Center has hosted an International Summer Program led by Artistic DirecWilson. Each summer, approximately 65 artists from almost 30 countries gather at Watermills Long Island, NYcampus. Participants spend two - five weeks in intense creative exploration which provides a unique opportunitestablished professionals, particularly the development and performance methodologies of Robert Wilson andlasting relationships with other artists from a broad range of experience levels and disciplinary specificity; develUS and international professional contacts; focus on new work, and embody what it means to be a global artis

    Participants receive access to an extensive collection of resources central to the Watermill experience: ongoinapprenticeships and daily workshops with Robert Wilson and his collaborators; lectures on various subjects froopera innovation, installation, design, and science led by international cultural luminaries, established artists, aopportunities to develop new work for public presentation during the annual Watermill Summer Benefit(http://watermillcenter.org/benefit) and Discover Watermill Day (http://watermillcenter.org/events/discover_2010) ; access to 20,feet of rehearsal/performance/design spaces; a theater production archive; a 6,000 volume library(http://watermillcenter.org/programs/library) ; outdoor stages; the Watermill Art Collection; and the Centers landscaped

    In addition to workshops, all participants share in the responsibilities of daily life: housekeeping, cooking, cleanmaintaining the Watermill grounds and gardens. Daily physical labor, including landscaping and the constructiospecific installations is an integral part of the Summer Program. This live/work environment reflects the Waterartist works differently in an environment that he or she has helped to create and maintain.

    All participants are lodged in shared rooms in either the Center's dormitory or rented summer houses. Sharedprovided for transport to and from the Center. All participants spend the entire day (from 9am to 10pm, seven dthe Center. All meals are prepared with trained chefs and served at the Center.

    Admission

    An admission committee, which includes Robert Wilson, selects participants according to their artistic ability, aand creative potential, as well as their cultural and professional background. Selection is also partially determinthe needs of the particular year's workshops, while aiming to ensure a balance between new and returning par varying disciplines, countries, and backgrounds. In 2011, over 70 artists and students between 17 and 65 yeararound the world participated in Watermill's International Summer Program.

    Application Requirements

    Admission to the program is by selection only. The Watermill Center uses Slideroom to gather applications and

    for its International Summer Program. All material must be submitted via the online portal through Slideroom EXCEPTIONS.

    About the Program

    During the Summer Program, every participant works collaboratively across SITE SPECIFIC EVENTS, PERFPROJECT WORKSHOPS, DESIGN PROJECT WORKSHOPS as well as lectures, landscaping and design/bui

    Artists apply as individuals and work across the programmed projects and events. The first two weeks focus orealization of an evening of installations and performances staged across the entire eight acres. Throughout ththree weeks, each day the artists split their time across the total program listed above. All work is delivered thr

    mentorship of Robert Wilson, his collaborators and a cross-section of multi-disciplinary producers and specialisworkshop environment.

    About The Watermill Center

    The Watermill Center is an interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts and humanities completed in 2006 on the Lsite of a former Western Union communication research facility. Founded by theatre and visual artist Robert Wifor young and emerging artists to work, learn, create, and grow with each other, Watermill integrates performinwith resources from the humanities, research from the sciences, and inspiration from the visual arts.     For more than 20 years, one of the most important programs of The Watermill Center has been the InternationProgram led by Artistic Director Robert Wilson. Each summer approximately 65 artists from over 25 countriesgather at Watermill for five weeks of intense creative exploration and artistic development. The Summer Progrunique opportunity for emerging artists to learn from established professionals in a laboratory environment. Thirequires everyone, regardless of experience, to live and work communally; assisting in chores, cooking, gardeconstruction or collection maintenance. This approach is crucial to understanding the collaborative working prorespecting shared resources.

    With the opening of its new building in 2006, the Center became a year-round performing arts laboratory for eExpanded programs in the spring and fall include workshops and classes, artist residencies, conferences and lvariety of local and international educational partnership programs. Watermill collaborates with institutions suc

    The Center seamlessly combines performance and rehearsal sites with working and communal living spaces. Imulti-purpose interiors house formal and informal performance spaces, the Watermill Art Collection, a selectioWilson's own furniture designs, an extensive reference library, kitchen facilities, and a dormitory. The Center isix acres of wooded and landscaped grounds in a rural environment.

    The Center is located in Water Mill, New York (Southampton, Long Island), approximately two hours by car froCity and JFK airport.

    The Facility
